[問題]ㄧ道搞不懂的修辭題~

這是從新東方白勇老師<GMAT語法全解>ㄧ書中出的ㄧ道語法題:

P.209 #36

In the 1980's the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970's.

(A)twice as fast as

(B)twice as fast as it was in

(C)twice what it was in

(D)two times faster than that of

(E)two times greater than

正確答案是(C)

小弟我想請問為何(C)正確?是何種結構?

(B)又為何錯呢?錯在哪?

小弟我想請問為何(C)正確?是何種結構?

(B)又為何錯呢?錯在哪?

一點淺見..
莫老師說 使用two times、three times來描述倍數關係,是老外小孩子用的,不宜在正式文章中出現,所以可以刪掉D,E
另外選項A.B 使用fast來形容前頭的rate?有點awkward吧!!
並且選項a中 as fast as前後沒有對稱。
故選C
只是我認為選項b和c中的it..在此題中會不會有指代不請楚的問題阿?
請高手們指教!!

我的想法是一樣的
two times不考慮,因為主要還是用在表達"2次",會讓人搞不清是"2次",還是"2倍",
twice 的2種用法,(1) twice the +N (or possessive form)
(2) twice + as adj as ~
B符合第2種用法,但是,fast都是形容動詞,不會用來形容名詞(rate)
ex.The dining-room is twice as big as the kitchen.
另.
b.c中的 "it "不會有指代不清的問題.
這句話的主詞只有1個the rate,後面只是adj片語,所以the rate in 1980's was twice what it was in (it 指 the rate ),若 it指別的東東,那麼比較就不同類囉....

我的想法是.....

A) B) D) 裡, fast 不能用來修飾 rate.
E) 比較對象會變成 the rate <=> the 1970’s.

所以看一看就只有C 比較沒問題.

只是.....C 的用法似乎很少見....
我意外想到的是....
1) it (prnoun) 指代 the rate
2) twice (adv) 修飾 what 引導的句子.
3) what ( relative pronoun )
因為後半句裡有verb "was" 且 it was + (objective)
所以這裡需要 what 來連接...........

奇奇怪怪的想法~~~~
