這題我模考的時候選C, 後來檢討的時候同意選A
因為C 的那個 ,which 會有歧意, 不知道他是代替前面緊鄰的monkfish, 還是那句話....

當然是要代替那句話,而ETS 對於代替整句話的時候, 喜歡用分詞表示!!! 絕對不能用which!! 這造成C的最大敗筆!

totally agree 魚姊姊!

至於老莫說的當there are出現的時候必有地方副詞出現......
我建議大家去大全查一查, 就用there are下關鍵字去搜尋....你就會知道老莫講的對不對 :-#

我再看，還是覺得A好，但恐怕就沒答案了
可惜ETS不會分段給分，如果答案是C，選A的根本不會對一半，選A的和選BDE的人根本沒兩樣

我覺得是A.

1.老莫的there子句的說法自相矛盾,看看C答案不是開頭就是there are,也未接地方副詞片語壓,這是其一.
2.C的which指涉不清,不知道是指前面整件事還是monkfish,ETS不會用這種方式的,只要which有ambiguity的問題,一定錯,老莫自己也說過,你說指XX,我說指YY,有問題;另外,which我想大家很清楚,ETS從來不准which去指代一整件事或是抽象概念,所以which放這一定錯,其二.
3.C老莫說是but there are not legal limits for monkfish 的省略,我想not與no是不一樣的東西,no是指"not any;not a; not one"的意思,與與單用not意思不同,不能這樣代換,考古題也有一題核爆會產生什麼什麼的那題,老莫自己說not a=no,所以這裡不能這樣直接代換,何況這種英文很怪異,你會翻成"這裡不是合法的限制",很奇怪.這是其三.

所以C我覺得一定錯.
A好處有ETS最愛補出一個述語a circumstance,免於ambiguity的方式,告訴你就是這樣的情況造成monkfish...,所以我覺得A.

北極熊你好.....我個人對於A有疑問的地方在於....

1. as there 子句中 as 的用法.....在這邊 as 要怎麼翻呢?我自己覺得若是用 but 或許會比較好吧?同時我也承認 a circumstance 的用法的確是比 which 更清楚.....

2. 選項A中的their太明顯的單複數錯誤...

3. 選項C中的 which 的確有 ambiguity 的現象.....但是 but ( there are ) not ( legal size ) for monkfish 這句並不是翻成「不是」喔.....there are not應該還是翻譯成「沒有」吧.....

請指教.... 8-|

其實我覺得A是怪怪的沒錯,
因為在於到底對cod and haddock有沒有legal limits?
照理說句意上應該是要contrast monkfish與cod and haddock才對,
可是若是A的話,變成是兩個都沒有legal limits.
我把我的想法說一下吧.
A.There are no legal limits, as there are for cod and haddock, on the size of monkfish that can be caught, a circumstance that contributes to their depletion through overfishing.
1.首先,我必須承認,there are當作主詞不是一個好方式,但是山窮水盡了,C答案實在覺得有問題,而OG或是考古題也是有there are當主詞的題,因此不得已的時候,ETS還是認可用there are 當主詞的句子.因此, as there are for cod and haddock這句, 我認為as就是連接詞,,整句應是as there are no legal limits for cod and haddock, no legal limits為舊資訊,省略,句意來看, ”…沒有法律限制,就如同對cod and haddock沒有法律限制,…”這樣講似乎也可通.
2.monkfish的單複數問題,我有上google搜尋,因為字典沒有這個字,而yahoo的字典翻譯為扁鯊,未說單複數,因此上了google,得到: sharks with broad flat bodies and winglike pectoral fins but that swim the way sharks do,看起來yahoo的翻譯沒錯,而google上得到的是sharks,因此這個字應該是單複數同形,所以我覺得後面用their沒有問題.
3.至於there are no 或是there are not,只是我個人感覺念起來怪怪的,如果老莫說可以的話,那只能說我語感有問題嚕.. :P

A.選的也是很虛啦,但是我認為比C.好,因為看OG或是考古題,確實ETS不認同將which指代整個抽象概念.所以我認為C.實在選不下去. ^o)

原句應該是這樣吧大家看看

今天再問了一次老師說這題目有問題
真要選一個他會選C 但C中的which確實是指代整句
所以也有問題所以他說這題應該不是ets的題目
不要在這題上放太大的心力~

在我門通常使用的there be 句型中,以下幾種表達必定錯
1.there could be done sth
2.there be sth done
3. there being + 名詞詞組
4. there was sth(抽象性表動作的名詞)如there was a transmission的表達不對
一般來說gmat中there be 僅用於此處有某物,而此物是指一具體名詞,如wolf, stone, star
而不是指一抽象名詞:如 conversion, relation等.

我用一個叫做21世紀的電腦辭典查...
上面說monkfish是單複同型的...(神奇吧!)
所以我應該會選A吧...
雖然那郭their前也有許許多多複數名詞可以代....
