CEO's是複數
indicate+ that ->B,C
C的their 可指CEO's，也可指workers-->ambiguity
所以答案是B

可是我上課時老莫老師說答案是cㄟ
他說
the pay of blue-collar workers,as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio.......
as是連接詞
as...pay是省略型副詞子句
原句是as (CEO's now earn 419 times were) compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio in 1980
( )內為舊訊息所以省略
the ratio in 1980是同位語
至於大家對compare to 的疑問
老莫說現在美國人對compare to 和 compare with已沒什麼區別...

答案ADE 中earn an average....賺一個平均數 語意怪異
但我不知道B為啥錯ㄟ

CEO's 複數主詞、earn 已經是動詞了 怎麼再 were compared呢？

然後這裡的their指的是blue-collar workers

前面有大大提到B選項錯的地方在a ratio指代不清
可否説明是怎樣的指代不卿阿

他給的答案是C 剛剛看到之前也有人回說做到PP答案給C
那應該就是C沒錯吧

答案B應該改成被動 as compared to才對, 因為是被比較
不過我也覺得答案C長得好不討喜
而且their不會有指代不清的問題嗎?

剛想到的..
這邊的句意是 現在是419倍的pay，之前是42倍的pay
這個ratio並不是只有ceo的pay就可以產生
需要ceo的pay與worker的pay 合併計算出來
所以那個 their pay 的their 會不會指的是 ceo & worker?
降子就沒有指代不清的問題，
同時後面的同位語 the ratio 的確也應該是 兩方的pay算出來的

compare 可以當及物或不及物動詞,基本上意思都是從"比較"衍生出來.及物動詞用在"比較"和"比擬"上.當不及物動詞有"比較"和"匹敵"的意思.

(B) 的 compares 為不及物動詞,意思是現在的419倍和1980年的42倍相匹敵,句意不合理(兩個數字顯然差太遠,不能比).
另外 in 1980 有修飾歧異. i.e. {a ratio that compares to 42 times} in 1980 vs a ratio that compares to {42 times in 1980}
in 1908 修飾整句,還是 42 times ?
如此看出 (C) 的那些逗點是有必要的.

indicate 後為一完整句子，須用that (不可省)

(a), (e) _________, compared to a ratio of 42 times 須注意是否有正確的compared主詞 (CEO's)~
結果發現…CEO's 和 a ratio的比較上有問題(不可以較)

(d)中 CEO's "who" now …的句型導致整個句子怪異 (形成indicate 為整個句子的動詞 …後接 CEO's )
(e)中 CEO's now earning 的結構形 (與(d)一樣的問題)

這題難在 (b)和(c) 兩個選項，gmat通常只要兩個選項就可以讓考生選錯！！
(b)問題在 compares to (須用被動)
