"as" is equal to "like" ----> as S+V, S+V; like A, B...every GMATer should be familiar with this idiom.

"their" refers to "monkfish" since plural and single are the same word.

其實我覺得A是怪怪的沒錯,
因為在於到底對cod and haddock有沒有legal limits?
照理說句意上應該是要contrast monkfish與cod and haddock才對,
可是若是A的話,變成是兩個都沒有legal limits.
我把我的想法說一下吧.
A.There are no legal limits, as there are for cod and haddock, on the size of monkfish that can be caught, a circumstance that contributes to their depletion through overfishing.
1.首先,我必須承認,there are當作主詞不是一個好方式,但是山窮水盡了,C答案實在覺得有問題,而OG或是考古題也是有there are當主詞的題,因此不得已的時候,ETS還是認可用there are 當主詞的句子.因此, as there are for cod and haddock這句, 我認為as就是連接詞,,整句應是as there are no legal limits for cod and haddock, no legal limits為舊資訊,省略,句意來看, ”…沒有法律限制,就如同對cod and haddock沒有法律限制,…”這樣講似乎也可通.
2.monkfish的單複數問題,我有上google搜尋,因為字典沒有這個字,而yahoo的字典翻譯為扁鯊,未說單複數,因此上了google,得到: sharks with broad flat bodies and winglike pectoral fins but that swim the way sharks do,看起來yahoo的翻譯沒錯,而google上得到的是sharks,因此這個字應該是單複數同形,所以我覺得後面用their沒有問題.
3.至於there are no 或是there are not,只是我個人感覺念起來怪怪的,如果老莫說可以的話,那只能說我語感有問題嚕.. :P

A.選的也是很虛啦,但是我認為比C.好,因為看OG或是考古題,確實ETS不認同將which指代整個抽象概念.所以我認為C.實在選不下去.

關於第一點的看法我跟上面一樣。

至於那個their，我的想法是代這三個東西monkfish、cod、haddock

a circumstance (沒有捕魚限制禁令的情況下) 會造成三種魚耗盡。

這解釋就不用在monkfish是否是單複數上面死摳了，不知道對不對。

這題我原來也是選 C 的，癥結在於 A 選項用 their 指 monkfish，不一致。C 選項的 which 雖然問題也很大，可是覺得不如單複數不一致嚴重。

可是後來查了字典以後，發現 fish 的確是單複數同型，實證可由海底總動員這部電影的對白可得，電影裡的鯊魚們不是常常說 "Fish are friends, not food." 由此來看，A 單複數不一致的問題不存在，故比 C 好。

建議改成 A。

我怎麼看還是怎麼覺得不一致ㄟ....
插入句but not for...這邊的for跟前面的of也不一致啊...

另外...這邊的which照句意來說應該是代legal limits
我的疑問是...可以不辭辛勞代這麼大老遠的名詞喔??

如果代legal limits後面為啥是contributes??後面還有一個its

所有格會不會是解題的關鍵呢??

這題我一開始用it/their來刪(把their刪掉)，最後作到(c)，原來fish是單複數同型，只能說這是國中時遺留下的錯誤觀念。考點不在所有格之上。

應該先用unlike來刪，就會剩下ac，(a)：a circumstance that．．．我只能說這是AT極為偏好的正確選項答案，正好衝到(c)： , which指代不清應該極力避免的選項。

所以我支持 (a)

不好意思問個很細的問題，選項A中的their照大家的說法可以代monkfish我覺得是沒有問題，不過相對地，好像也可以代limits(不知道有沒有說錯)，如此一來會不會語意不清呀?當然Ｃ的確是不好，我完全找不出正確答案。

我覺得這題有個illogical的陷阱喔
cod and haddock，經查字典是鱈魚
Monkfish根據前面的大大所言，是一種鯊魚

如果是A的話，變成鱈魚和鯊魚都瀕臨絕種了......
可是.......事實上，有嗎？ 若從「句意」判斷（我覺得這是重點），原文是為了要點出因為沒有legal limits on size而導致Monkfish的depletion，而舉cod and haddock做例子。

若A的話，their可能是取代Monkfish（若以fish是單複數同形的話）或是 cod and haddock，反而會造成ambiguity吧。甚至若是同時指代三種魚，則以小弟前所述，句意上不合理。

至於C，的確which會有指代不清的可能性，但是因為後面有it，可知it是指代Monkfish，因此which和it不可能是指同一件事物，所以which唯一能指代的是前面整件事。

這題我同意莫老師的答案：題目可能有問題，若真的要選，C會比A好。
