A錯在歧義
According to a survey of graduating medical students conducted by the Association of American Medical Colleges, minority graduates are nearly four times more likely than are other graduates in planning to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas.

因are likely to的慣用用法沒變,那同前有人提到的 in planning 變成很容易修飾前的other graduates,對句意的理解可以變成其他正在計畫中的畢業生生,或是其他主修planning的畢業生(國外有planning這主修degree,主要和很多市政規劃,地區規劃,環境規劃有關,配上後面的socioeconomically depr ived areas.非常適合讓人產生歧義

另外誰說不能用nearly as likely as去說明大約四倍?不然還有甚麼更好表達方法?總不能每個survey結果都一定要xxx times more than xxx

理由有下面兩點:
1.
(A)如果暫時拉掉比較不看
minority garduates are likely in planning.....
likely 就算是當形容詞也是用來修飾名詞 an likely excuse..
如果後面要加動詞應該不能用in planning..而要用are likely to plan才對
2. 贊成puthing提到的MoBeBe筆記
...times要用greater than 不用 more than

我很早就覺得這個用法奇怪
但大全有過
感覺並不陌生
OG裡確實有一題什麼2000年
老莫有說祖先當然比後代年紀大

所以我最後給自己的筆記沒有那麼侷限
應該是
n times more...than 和 n times as...as都可以使用
在這種情況下
優先排除其他可能的錯誤選項

回頭注意大全
就可以發現問題都不在as as或者more than
而是還有其他的文法錯誤
be likely to就是

試著還原要比較的東東是什麼?

1.minority graduates are likely to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas (有少數的畢業生可能在社會經濟貧困的地區實習)

2.other graduates in planning are likely to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas(other說明minority 不屬於 graduates in planning，在此in planning為在某某領堿，也就是說: 其它在城市規劃領堿中的畢業生可能在社會經濟貧困的地區實習)

combine 1 and 2, 情況1的可能性為情況2的四倍多

Aminority graduates are nearly four times more likely than are other graduates in planning to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas

少數的畢業生比其它那些學城市規劃的畢業生更有可能在社會經濟貧困的地區實習
(這裡的be likely to practice是在比"更有可能在..實習"，這句話說明了一種毛盾的現像)

C嚴重改變句意，第一：原句是更可能去實習，改變句意為更可能去計劃

我覺得沒有這道規則因為OG199，OG解答自己就使用XX times+ more than,
以下摘錄OG199詳解的一段：
D logically indicates that earthquakes in the eastern United States are 100 times more devastating than are western earthquakes.


ＢUT這題我還是支持c選，再看到kaori110大大後，不得不佩服居然能找到原文，真是太厲害了…
理由是，在做這道題時，我先將A\B\C歸為一組，Ｄ＼Ｅ為一組，
(PS:因為A\B\C一開頭是一樣的)
D－more……rather than以及Ｅ－as……than用法在OG中是頭號必殺對象，這點大家再好好看看OG我就不必贅述..
至於A\B\C我其實並沒看出有be likely to 的用法…
而是按句意上大概的意思是說醫學院的畢業生比起其他的畢業生較有可能計劃去貧民區
記得表目的使用to +Ｖ 比in + Ving ＼for + doing．．更好，而且有人做這個動作，
至於B選，後面who plan on…完全變成在修飾other graduates→改變句意

所以ｃ選較好…


再補充一下，我剛在做ＣＲ9-37時看到這一段話：
Those who began smoking within a month of the study’s start were four times as likely to be depressed at the study’s end than those who did not begin smoking.

不過我覺得 (A)錯的地方不是那個 than + are + other graduates in planning......

因為 are 往前搬，符合老師說的由重到輕原則。

應該是錯在 in planning這個表達方式比較奇怪

(A) 並沒有脫離 be likely to +V 的習慣用法,只是插進一個副詞 in planning => be likely {in planning} to practice
than 後面的倒裝似乎是刻意的 are other graduagtes 讓 in planning 修飾不到 graduates 因為隔了一個 are. (i.e.倒裝意在告訴讀者,有一個 are 在這裡喔!)為避免修飾誤置, are 不能省略.因此 in planning 修飾 likely
=> ... more likely {than are other graduagtes} in planning to...
(C) as likely as, be likely to plan 改變句意

1. A答案:minority graduates are nearly four times more likely than are other graduates in planning to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas. 選的原因是:
a.依登峰陳菱芷老師對in的解釋是表某種狀態或領域來說,此處的in planning 應是修飾other graduates表其他在城市規劃領域中的畢業生
b.根據賴水信文法書,than和as後面子句倒裝與不倒裝均非強迫性,但是倒裝句的語勢是要強過於不倒裝的句式,因此若還原than的子句則應是other graduates in planning are likely(likely此處原句被省略) to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas.由此可知仍是符合be likely to V.的慣用語
c.再根據more than比較級用法,因此此處已是強調minority比other graduates in planning更有可能實習 to practice

2. C答案:minority graduates are nearly four times as likely as other gradeuates to plan on practicing in socioeconomically depriced areas.不選的原因是:
a.嚴重改變句意,此處已變為更可能計畫而非更有可能實習
b.比較對象改變從other graduates in planning 到other graduates,沒有如A去著重比較other graduates in planning 的強勢

感謝提供觀點! 先前沒有考慮到, in planning 如果是"在計畫的狀態中",這樣 (A) 的句意會不會有問題啊?

in planning 有沒有修飾的歧異: 修飾 other graduates? minority graduates {are likely}? 還是 minority graduates are...more likely than are other graduates?
修飾 other graduates 句意似乎沒有修飾前面全部來得好; minority graduates 多於四倍比"在計畫的狀態中"的 other graduates 可能在 socioeconomically deprived areas 執業: 只有 other graduates 會計畫?

plan on: 打算
看起來 (C) 的句意對,也沒有修飾的歧異;大全給的答案是 (C).
