之前有討論,比較中如果主、動辭一致,則後面之主辭可以省略,
不過以下這三題之原則似乎不太一樣。
想請教各位大大怎樣判斷?
1-Q16:
Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than it was in any previous election.
A. a greater proportion than it was
B. a greater proportion than
C. a greater proportion than they have been
D. which is greater than was so
E. which is greater than it has been
答案為B,省略than it had been(不懂為何可以省略,因為動詞為過去完成,時態不一致,可以省略嗎?)
1-Q32:
To develop more accurate population forecasts, demographers have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic determinants of fertility.
A. have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic
B. have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical
C. would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical
D. would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic
E. would have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economical
答案為D,這題之more than they do now不可以省略,
問題:如果比照Q16題,則Q32題之A答案部是也可行嗎?
12-Q30:According to public health officials, in 1998 Massachusetts became the first state in which more babies were born to women over the age of thirty than under it.
A.than
B.than born
C.than they were
D.than there had been
E.than had been born
答案為A,一樣想問,如果這題答案為A(可省略babies were born to women)那
Q1-32答案中的A為何不能省略呢?
