I am in favor of E.

題目推論 the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians.
B. No musical instrument that is known to have used a diatomic scale is of an earlier date than the flute found at the Neanderthal campsite.
不論before或是after at the Neanderthal campsite:Western採用的七音程是由bone flute而來的。
E.The cave-bear leg bone used to make the Neanderthal flute would have been long enough to make a flute capable of playing a complete diatonic scale.
當時的熊骨(play the third through sixth notes of the diatonic scale)夠長,能夠做出完整的一個音階(the seven-note musical scale)──雖然當時沒有 “would have been”
,但是the seven-note of the diatonic scale 原理就是從這個發展而來的(developed and used)。

no musical instrument that is known to have........

畢竟要確認three notes是屬於"diatonic musical scale(seven notes)" ,

仍符合結論所述the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years

agree with the explaination, I think the E connect the gap between the sentence of the seven-note musical scale since the Renaissance. and that of Musicologists therefore hypothesize that the diatonic musical scale was developed and
used thousands years.....
Ps.

E是強調:a complete seven diatonic scale

Musical therefore hypothesize that the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adapted by Western musicians.

B與E對照起來,B比較像是E能support diatonic musical scale was developed and used的 assumption......o_O

不選B是因為: 雖然在之前沒有樂器是DIATMIC SCALE (七孔音階樂器), 但也不能support Neanderthal 的bone flute 就是七孔樂器, 因為題目上只說到它是4孔樂器阿 (the spacing of the FOUR HOLE on a FRAGMENT of a bone flute...)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divje_Babe :laugh

Bob Fink claimed in his essay the year before, that the bone's holes were "consistent with four notes of the diatonic scale" (do, re, mi, fa) based on the spacing of those four holes. The spacing of the holes on a modern diatonic flute (minor scale) are unique, and not evenly spaced. In essence, Fink said, they are like a simple fingerprint. The Divje Babe bone's holes matched those spacings very closely to a series of note-holes in a minor scale.

Nowell and Chase wrote in Studies In Music Archaeology III (presentations at a 2000 world conference on music archaeology), and saying in the media as well, that the juvenile bear bone was too short to play those four holes in-tune to any diatonic series of tones and half-tones.

In addition, three separate museum curators (Prague National Museum; Treasures of the Earth; Birmingham Zoo), experienced with cave bears bones, were quoted from 1997 in "Studies in Music Archaeology III" (cited below) that an unbroken juvenile cave bear femur, in any event, could have been long enough to meet the "in-tune" playing length requirements proposed by Chase and Nowell. The length was confirmed again in July 1997 (published in the Museum-L archives of July 10, 1997) by Patrick Boylan who checked the usual lengths of yearling cub femurs in the large collections of cave bear bones at the Prague museum.

GWD1-Q17
The spacing of the four holes on a fragment of a bone flute excavated at a Neanderthal campsite is just what is required to play the third through sixth notes of the diatonic scale—the seven-note musical scale used in much of Western music since the Renaissance. Musicologists therefore hypothesize that the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the hypothesis?

A. Bone flutes were probably the only musical instrument made by Neanderthals.
B.No musical instrument that is known to have used a diatomic scale is of an earlier date than the flute found at the Neanderthal campsite.→
C.The flute was made from a cave-bear bone and the campsite at which the flute fragment was excavated was in a cave that also contained skeletal remains of cave bears.
D.Flutes are the simplest wind instrument that can be constructed to allow playing a diatonic scale.
E.The cave-bear leg bone used to make the Neanderthal flute would have been long enough to make a flute capable of playing a complete diatonic scale.→ was developed and used

解題思路是要此敘述句的強度, "the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians."

Weaken,
