[問題]New USC Marshall Admit

Hi everyone:

今天經由朋友介紹才知道這個網站 ^^
我在今年被USC Marshall 錄取 (2-year program)
background是University of British Columbia, Computer Science
4年的資料庫管理/設計的經驗

想在啟程之前跟還在台灣的USC未來同學們找個機會碰面聊聊天
我有稍微看了一下這裡的網站
發現大部分好像都是IBEAR的同學
不知道有誰是2-year program的

我1996進UBC, 2000畢業
跟NTG前幾屆的幹部還蠻熟的
說不定認識欸

我的心得阿...
先講一下我的成績好了

GMAT 710
GPA 2.7
4 years of experience as Database administrator/programmer

也許光看我的GMAT, 可以試著申請TOP10或TOP5的學校
但是實在是少年不努力, 老大徒傷悲
GPA爛到一個不能再爛的地步

然後因為是在加拿大拿的學士,
可以不用考TOEFL
(不過說不定考了會對我加分... 我高三的時候申請大學要考, 結果第一次630幾, 第二次 657 (paper score))

所以剛開始就是目標TOP25左右, 然後大城市的MBA program (NY, Boston, California area)
之中我偏好西岸的氣候, 也覺得西岸的學風跟我個人比較搭
所以申請了5所學校 (Berkeley, USC, UCLA, Yale, NYU)
其中3個西岸 2個東岸

USC是我的第一目標
因為他的entrepreuership program很好
在california也意味著他跟pacific rim的關係也不錯
特別的是有一個叫PRIME的program
我對那個很有興趣

其他的學校老實說就沒有做太多的research

我去年5月開始準備GMAT, 9月考GMAT
12月~1月從各個學校的R2開始遞application

Essay除了USC的有跟essayedge討論
其他的都是自己修改然後交出

目前NYU, Yale, UCLA都被reject (no interview offer)
Berkeley 尚未有動靜, 不過我也不抱什麼希望

USC則是3月跟keith vaughn(MBA director/vp of USC)
在日本interview, 之後一個星期接到錄取通知

我覺得以我的CASE來講
我的GPA是個原罪
所以對於一些排名比較高的學校
跟別人競爭本來就差了一大步
我的work experience自認沒有加太多分, 但是相對的也沒有扣太多分
所以我必須要在essay裡證明我的qualification
在每家的optional essay我也都有解釋我的GPA的問題

可是我只有在USC的application下了最多的心力在essay上
所以其他學校被reject是應該的
因為我沒有accentuate my strength and tailor-make the application for other schools

被USC錄取我也很高興..
收了那麼多rejection letter
想說完蛋了
沒想到還是給我上了
真是謝天謝地 XD

Congratulations! Welcome to USC Marshall.

I figure most of current students are getting into the final exam week and probably don't have time to check out this board. Also the graduation ceremony is just weeks away for 2nd year students.

I recommend you to be in touch in MBA office to get a list of admitted students contact information. Then you can go from there to make some initial contacts.

Please feel free to contact me if there is anything I can help with. Unfortunately, I am graduating and probably won't have a chance to see you in person at the campus. But I still reside in L.A. since I am working for a company in Calabasas (LA county). So drop me a line when needed.

Thanks for your reply.
Since USC hasn't finalized the admission process for this year, I figure I will just get a complete list later ^^

If you use msn messenger frequently, feel free to add me to your list. or if there is time, perhaps you can share a little on your experience in Marshall and the job-hunting process that landed you a job. I am sure everyone on this forum would be interested ^^

So my chance of going to USC just changed from 99% to 99.999%
