Hello guys,

目前1st year students計畫在12月底順道回台灣時舉辦一個小型說明會
可是時間距離2nd round的application deadline已相去不遠
另外可能陸續有人收到1st round interview invitation後也會希望詢問current students
所以任何對於申請Chicago GSB MBA的問題，請不要客氣提出討論
我會邀請適合回答不同問題的current students來share different ideas
(當然你們也可以指定要求opeman回答啦~ ^^)

今年與台灣沾上邊的1st year students有非常diversified的background:
PE/S&T/Research/Mkting/Consulting/Media/Entrepreneur/Engineering
所以跟個人background/career goal比較相關的問題也歡迎提出討論

1. What surprise you the most about GSB when you first start the program?

2. How many GSB students were admitted from Taiwan last year? How many of those people are doing finance?

3. How do students and faculty interact outside of classroom? How accessible are the faculty?

4. I've heard that GSB students are known to challenge conventional wisdom, as well as each other. Do people sometimes take it personally as the debate become heated?

5. What are some things you would like to change in GSB?

1. What surprise you the most about GSB when you first start the program?

個人感覺，最驚奇的部分除了這棟超豪華的商學院，最重要的是發現芝加哥商學院100%的實務就業導向（雖然學術方面一樣紮實）！！從開學的第一天，就業中心就一直不斷的幫我們訓練，準備。從履歷表修改，面試模擬，雞尾酒餐會模擬，到包下希爾頓飯店做全年級五百人的面試訓練，並用D8錄下你回答的模樣。對於這樣的周到的服務與安排，讓所有學生都很滿意。 一掃過去對芝大僅僅學術取向的偏見。

2nd year- 8, Finance 5
1st year- 6, Finance 4

3. How do students and faculty interact outside of classroom? How accessible are the faculty?

你隨時都可以寫信給教授，半天之內一定有回信。下課後常常都是學生圍著教授請教問題。 上課以外的時間，則可以寫信事先安排，或是透過固定的office hour 與教授預約見面。 預約見面並非教授大牌，而是教授的行程非常不固定。 有時去分部上課，有時與企業合作，有時演講。事先安排可以避免撲空。 目前GSB還沒聽到有學生抱怨教授與學生的互動不夠多。

4. I've heard that GSB students are known to challenge conventional wisdom, as well as each other. Do people sometimes take it personally as the debate become heated?

我在GSB一年多，並沒有發生過這回事。就算是在討論最激烈的CASE課，學生也是就事論事。坦白說，GSB學生的成熟度很高，大家都是彼此互相尊重。學生樂於分享，也樂於互相衝擊思想。但是都是很正面開心的。

5. What are some things you would like to change in GSB?

對我來說，希望GSB能多做一點商學院本身的行銷。尤其是在亞洲。畢竟GSB在台灣一般大眾的知名度還是不及哈佛 MIT 華頓等等。

我想Sean 已經給大家不少資訊了，就我個人而言，這邊career center所提供的資源far exceed my expectation。我想，能在一流的學府中聽一堂讓你終身受用的演講或是觀念，這是為什麼我在芝加哥的目的，同時也是一種幸福的感覺

2. How many GSB students were admitted from Taiwan last year? How many of those people are doing finance?

再補充一點，儘管今年一年級有四位有finance background，但其實工作經驗還是十分diverse，有在Private Equity，在investment banking做research，有人是entrepreneur，我本身則在investment management industry 做marketing，其實申請的人並不需要擔心自己的working background

3. How do students and faculty interact outside of classroom? How accessible are the faculty?

我想教授這塊是申請芝加哥的同學最不用擔心的部分，you will be amazed how great they are. 我想這邊上課最大的不同是，假如你上課有任何的問題或是不清楚的地方，教授認為這是他們的責任而不是你的問題，so feel free to ask them as long as you are confused by any unclear ideas

4. I've heard that GSB students are known to challenge conventional wisdom, as well as each other. Do people sometimes take it personally as the debate become heated?

文人相輕，自古而然。不論是在哪個學校還是哪個國家，在討論議題的時候總會有意見不合的情況，我想這也是用來磨練communication skills and team work ability的機會。就目前而言，I really enjoy the discussion with my peers.

5. What are some things you would like to change in GSB?

Again, what you are doing is awesome!

說沒有缺點是騙人的，但是瑕不掩瑜才是重點。學校能提供的東西太多，假如有機會能改變什麼，我則是希望能有更多的時間，來體驗更多的GSB experience.

拜讀各位牛人前輩之文 更是讓我對GSB神往阿 其實一直都把GSB當成我第一目標
不過First round 到現在還沒結果 讓我是又心急又難過 喜歡芝加哥的學風芝加哥的課程設計 當我參加完TWN reception後更增加我對GSB的的嚮往 沒幾天就要deadline了and I can only have my fingers crossed 大家共勉之吧 謝謝各位京戲的解說 讓我更了解芝加哥

We all have the same experiences before.
You got some interview invitations/admissions earlier, and some later.
(I got my Chicago GSB invitation around 2 or 3 days before the deadline)
Before the deadline and outcome release, keep your hope on in this period!

Thank you guys! I am still waiting for my interview invite as well. But since I turned in my application 2 hours before the deadline, I know if I were to get an invite, it should be toward the end of the invitation cycle.

By the way, does anyone know what % of the applicants get an interview invitation and what % of the interviewees are eventually admitted?

Columbia, for example, interviews half of its applicants and only admit a third of those that were interviewed... Wharton has the same number...

補充芝加哥商學院的另一個特點： 就是它的絕佳地點 for Recruiting

芝加哥是美國第三大城，很像是一個小型但很乾淨的紐約。而也因為這個城市位於美國中心，並且同時擁有西北與芝加哥兩間M7 商學院，所以幾乎每一家公司都會來做校園徵才說明會與面試。

好處在哪呢？ 學生不必辛辛苦苦的飛到其他城市，就只為了一個小時的面試，免去舟車勞頓之苦。

像這次大中華波士頓顧問公司 Boston Consulting Group 校園徵才，全美就只停了芝加哥，紐約，費城 與 波士頓 四個城市。麥肯錫 BTO 全美更只停了芝加哥一站，連停四天作為面試基地。
其他學校的面試學生，就必須選擇一個就近城市進行面試。 大家或許覺得偶爾飛一趟很有趣，但是當你在身處徵才旺季， 一個禮拜有五六個面試，每天都在坐飛機的時候，甚至要當天往返的時候，那就不是一件好玩的事了。不但課業無法兼顧，更是身心俱疲啊！！

I don't have the exact number. But I believe the ratio is pretty much the same as those in Wharton- 50% get interview and 1/5 got admission.

So this translates to 10% overall acceptance rate!? Wow, I am surprised to learn that it's this low. Then again, Chicago GSB is the only school that does not publish its acceptance rate so we'll never know =)

By the way, I got an interview invite a couple of days ago, can one of the curreent students tell me what's the best way to get to campus from Midway airport and where is a lodging place? I really appreciate it, thanks!

Honestly, the best way is to take Taxi- about $25. There is no direct transportation from Midway to GSB.

BTW, I mean 20% of the total applicants will get the final offers, not 20% of the applicant to got the interview invitation. But once again, it's just my guesstimate. Hope it will help :>
