Due to insufficient space of Alum interview in TWN, Duke can not accomodate my interview here in Taipei. So I kept calling and email. So here u go-----> a HKG interview on a Saturday morning.
It was on the Sat morning and I took the earliest flight on 8am so need to get up at 5 to catch the shuttle to the airport.
Interviewer: Alan Chan (background:Grad from class 2004, working in PE as an associate. He got his undergrad in U of Mich with a major in Accounting. After that he work for 4 years in AT Kearney as a consultant) He's extremely helpful and nice so the conversation just keep going on and on. He would not interrupt but will ask for details or further explanation if he didn't fully get my answer.
Place: Pacific coffee in HKG int' l airport
Time: A bit longer than 1.5 hour
Questions:
1.A bit of self intro since he forgot to bring my resume since he did not even know I sent one! hahahah. He asked a few follow-up ones regarding the details of my functions.
2.WhyMBA/now/Fuqua
3.How could Duke help u specifically in attaining ur career goal
4.Strengthes: but he use some indirect way to ask this questions.
5.Leadership experience professionally/outside work? what's ur leadership style in solving difficult situations?
6. Gimme severals reasons why shall the adcom should admit you into the Fuqua MBA program/What u want me to address in particular to strengthen you cadidacy in the evaluation form?
7.Q&A: I like this one in particular since he knew I want to pursue a consulting career he shared with me alot about what the Duke curriculum could offer like student consulting program and some insights of it. Extremely helpful sharings and as I knew, he had taken leading roles in the consulting program and also work for as a consultant before joined Fuqua.
He also told me he met her wife in Duke and she usually complained about his being too involved in club activities hahaha!!!
The other fun part was that we started to compare between Ross and Fuqua MBA program as this is a great debate for ppl for years. Hearing his views was particularly fun since he took his undergrad in Ross and MBA in Fuqua and join both Alumni associations in HKG. He's the kind who prefer a colleague city so he can focus solely on his studies and his kept mentioning the TEAM spirit of Fuqua.
Seeing is believing, I heared that DUKE alum are extremely team oriented and helpful. Throught this interview, I had witnessed and experienced the friendliness and helpfulness of Duke Alum. Wish I got another chance to live in the values of Duke and experience the life of Blue Devils. Hope this sharing will help all those who r going to do Duke interview in near future in R2 since I think I might be the last one to be interviewed in R1 ahahaha!!!!
