MBA 選校: UIUC (Illinois MBA) v.s. U Pitt (Katz)

各位大家好, 小的我申請美國2010年秋季班Full-time MBA, 目前很猶豫要選UIUC或U Pitt, 懇求大家給予建議.

我未來想要 concentrate 在 supply chain management / logistics management 和 international business / international trade 上面, 計畫未來若在美國找得到工作會待在美國一年, 但是找不到也並不強求, 目標是要在亞太地區當 multinational corporation 的 logistics manager.

University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign 和 University of Pittsburgh 這兩間我都很想念, 目前的考量如下:

* 相同點:
1. UPitt 有 International Business Center, 我申請的是 Dual Degree Program (MBA / MIB - Master in International Business), 並且有跟他們負責的director聯絡, 甚至詢問過修 Dual Degree Program 的在校生相關資訊, 他們現在這個 Program 正是重建時期但是制度並不完整, 強調的是可以去他國公司的 summer internship 機會和第二外語的精通(我當然就是英文啦~), 目前參加人數不多(6人), 但是聽說經濟不景氣下不管 domestic students 或 international students 工作都不好找.

UIUC 有 Center for International Business Education and Research, 但是針對這個中心的資源我獲得的資訊較少. 另外我也知道 UIUC 也有 summer internship 的機會, 但是如同interviewer所言, 經濟不景氣下工作也是不好找, 找不找得到端看 international students 的語言能力和 networking 能力.

2. 都有 Operations Management 的 concentration

3. 兩間台灣校友都很多, 未來若回台灣找工作較吃香

4. 緯度氣候差不多

* 不同點:
UIUC:
2009年商學院排名38
大學城, 位於countryside, 但是離 Chicago 約2個多小時的距離.

UPitt:
2009年商學院排名 5X
同樣是大學城, 位於中型城市匹茲堡, 但是旁邊有頂尖名校 Carnegie Mellon University, 有時會有校際合作的機會.

不知道有沒有人能提供其他考量的點? 或是是否有在校生或校友願意分享您的經驗呢?

U Pitt 網站上提供了許多他們的program資訊, 有詳盡的課程介紹, 各program的網頁連結也很多, 使我感受到它是個資源豐富的學校; UIUC 的網站相對來講資料較少, 希望有版上大大能提供更詳細的資訊.

Here's my honest advice:

--Job prospects in the U.S.
Both schools are equally bad, especially in this macro environment. ~10% unemployment with a possibility of a double dip recession.

--Brand recognition in Taiwan
UIUC

--Job Prospects in Taiwan/Asia:
Outside of Taiwan in Asia, no one can really differentiate these 2 schools if you are talking about a MNC hiring manager. I don't think your goals are realistic.

Advice:
--Evaluate your personal financial situation. If money isn't an issue, go to the school that will make you happy. If money is an issue, go to the cheaper school. After all, if you can save money upfront, it's as good as money earned.
