No one likes to be the bearer, but surely you did provide lots of "real-world" insights which make a huge impact on readers in this place.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for some industries going to a school outside of the top 15-20 (in the US), it is zero to nil.

Are you going to say that if i want to get in finance/consulting company, top 15 to top 20 may not be a good platform?
The chance for students from top 15 to top 20 to get in is extremely hard?
I do not understand the nature of finance/consulting, but shouldn't past working experience and industry specific take into consideration?
I would suggest you talk to the current students at the the top 15 schools and ask them how hard it is to crack finance/consulting. (There is already a drastic drop-off in consulting/ib recruitment when you move from top 15 to top 20--CMU, Indiana, Austin, Emory, USC, UNC)

I do believe Georgetown is a good school, as for myself, I get the offer from Georgetown with the scholarship. How can you make such suggestion? Base on what information and criteria? Can you talk about this more detail? or else, such info could make misunderstanding to many readers.My suggestion as an alternative if you don't want to go to Europe is Georgetown. At least, I have met bankers/consultants who have graduated from this school over the past five years. (Please don't give me examples of people who attended a no-name school 10-20 years ago. That was a different era.)

所以基本上,由Mark大哥的堆論,出國沒有念上top 15的
未來就是沒有前途了,也等於白唸了
是否可以請Mark大哥表達明確一點,哪寫是top 15的學校?
這樣可讓大家別讓費錢在非在名單上面的學校

我能感覺到你的話很有影響力
但是否能顧及那些所謂的current student, 跟對該校有興趣的人,Even畢業校友
就我而言,已經有不少人跟我談到這個問題
在這樣下去,那些真正需要我們幫助的人會怯於在這發言
也有不少人跟我談到,在咖啡店如果不是大家所謂的好學校,他們基本上是不會發言的,因為咖啡店給它的感覺就是那些所謂好學校的人進來的地方
也有人跟我反應今年為什麼跟去年的聚會越半越少,越來越沒有第一年那麼熱烈
且覺得今年申請的人感覺很冷淡
這不是我們的用意,我們也不想讓它變成這個樣子


我想發表這篇的文章的brucechiang動機很單純
它只是想要在這兩間學校做個取捨,分析優劣而已
它應該也覺得咖啡店maybe能夠給它一個方向,縱使答案不是它所想要的
本身也會有收穫

選校歐....要看您的需求摟 就像Mark說的 你的年紀 , 過去的經驗
經濟考量等 都是需要納入考慮的因素....都沒有個準的...
您可以 post 出來給大家參考....

至於說到IB , Consulting industry ... 當然 不是每個人都想要進這些產業
但是 在美國求職 大家應該都知道裡面的箇中奧妙 哪個學校是哪些公司的特定
的 recruiting pool .... 現在在美國的大家 應該都心知肚明....

最近也替一些人做 consulting 過 ... 在我的個案中 很多都是懷有IB的夢想
但是我還是忍不住要戳破這些人的一些美夢 因為很多事情在這邊 就是這樣
一個 MBA , 要花掉好幾百萬 是個相當大的投資 不能亂來的阿....
我會把這裡最詳實的狀況跟他們說 給他們最充分的資訊來決定學校
至於 要不要重考 延後一年出去 都是個人的考量....

m...至於目標不是放在job的 我當然會提供他們另類的選校考量摟 !!
需求不同 選校標準不同 大家也不用吵啦
至於以現在的我來說 我會選在大都市的學校摟....純粹只想吃好吃的中國菜!

我相信你說的絕對有道理，也是根據過往經驗和歷史數據所分析出來評論。你的專業讓很多人覺得受用。可是我不能再浪費時間了，因為我現在已經30歲了，在corporate banking工作了5年。

Mark是否延後出國或是再提出其他學校的申請只是選項之一
就像很多人面臨是否重考toefl 或Gmat以提升自己的戰力
都是得自己去評估去選擇
倒也沒必要去對已得高分者所給予的建議覺得沒有用
雖然聽起來或許很刺耳
但若真是不符合事實的話 我想還是有人會提出異議
這才是論壇的目的

我剛申請上的 WU in St Louis
也是聽校友講過才知道社工所排名還不錯
不過這個排名呀... 經過爬版後也發現不是很具公信力
更別說許多前輩說過 排名也是有代溝的
(也就是一般人並不太會自動去更新排名的異動...)
但連去美國留學回來的朋友都沒聽過WU
實在讓我傻眼

之前選校時朋友說所謂國外的名校就像台灣的台清交等一樣
讓不了解排名狀況的我有了具體的想像
不過美國名校何其多
專長的領域更是多元
David大哥勸我們選校時要好好看課程
除了是否確切符合自己的發展方向或是興趣
課程不也是一大重點嗎?
例如 David 討論到以下學校:
Haas, UC Berkeley
Anderson, UCLA
Fuqua, Duke
Emory
Purdue
