I heard you.
Vanderbilt University is actually a very well respected private university in the US. Some even compare it to Harvard. Vanderbilt contributes many things to our society. It created the first blue rose.
Nevertheless, not many people in Taiwan have heard this university. In fact, the following universities are well respected private universities that are hardly known to common non-business people in Taiwan: California Institute of Technology, Duke University, Dartmouth College, Washington University in St. Louis, Brown University, Johns Hopkins University, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, and University of Notre Dame. I bet most of people in Taiwan did not know Cornell University before our former president became our president.
Going to those universities above, you would probably gain more respect in the US than going to a public university such as University of California.
Please do not be discouraged. All you have to do is to determine what you value the most. A degree? US experience? Money? Reputation in Taiwan? Or anything else.
I hate to see people put their own needs or standards on someone and tell someone what to do in their ways. People always say to retake GMAT, to reapply, to do what they think the best, or to wait for a couple years. People do not think in other people’s shoes. What do you value the most at this moment in your life? Is Vanderbilt good enough for you? Only you can answer this question.
