有關「工作經驗」的疑問

小弟剛剛擺脫GMAT的魔掌（幸運的考到700出頭），趁空檔來稍微搜尋一下MBA跟MSF的相關資訊。

但是當累積了一些資訊之後，發覺絕大多數的MBA都是至少3 years以上的工作經驗，甚至連比較top的MSF工作經驗也平均都有到3 years

不禁對自己的工作經驗這一塊有些擔心。

（最近再某些版上看到的一些發表：「當你的同事都在談論如何在談判桌上跨國談判時，你能只分享社團活動的經驗嗎？」）

先概述一下小弟的薄弱背景：

清華經濟系2005畢+科技管理學程--> 義務役預官 1年4個月--> 某家小公司 4個月 --> 貿協國企人才培訓中心 1年 --> 國內NB代工廠PM 1年

社團活動：某服務性社團幹部兩年、畢聯會總編輯

因為小弟的目標是想要申請MBA in Finance這一塊，未來希望能走科技產業分析，但從上面的背景來說，其實對於金融領域算是完全沒有涉獵

且因為GMAT成績尚可保留五年，所以想再回到職場找銀行或是金融相關領域來加強這一塊。

但現在問題來了，家人都希望我申請2010年的秋季班，所以折衷的方法變成：儘快考完TOEFL，然後找代辦，同時開始找工作，但即時運氣再好讓我馬上找到，

工作經驗也不過增加幾個月，且還算是才剛上手，幫助似乎不大。

家人與女友的支持申請2010年的論點有三：

1. 年紀不小了（27歲）；再不去就太晚。

2. 各一年不同產業的背景，沒有連續性，也不可能爬到管理職，對申請沒有太大幫助。

3. 雖然平均工作經驗為3.5 yrs，但一定也有少於3.5 yrs的學生。


但我在意的是若沒有足夠的工作經驗，即使錄取今年的秋季班，能否順利畢業？又能否有所收獲？

畢竟花了三、四百萬如果沒有收獲，真的不如別去；且外國人念MBA的平均年齡都是30+，必然有其原因及背景。

在此想請教各位前輩：

1. 如果用這樣的背景，能有機會申請到TOP 15-30的學校嗎？

2. 假設申請到，沒有工作經驗是否就是代表念MBA較沒有收獲？（例如：case study時沒有人願意跟你同組之類）甚至無法畢業（目前好像還沒聽說過就是了）

3. 若在工作經驗不足的情形下， 把重心放在申請Master in Finance會比較好嗎？（可能可以申請到排名較前面的學校）


目前個人的計畫是：

今年還是會按照原訂計畫丟出11間左右的學校，MBA跟MSF都會丟，視錄取情況再考慮。今年很可惜沒有參加到MBA tour，剛好都在考AT前一個月...（殘念）

所以PO在這邊還請大家給些建議，跟家人都快因此翻臉了（一個堅持早出去早回來，一個則是工作經驗與MBA的收穫重要）

我在這一帖只看到P大感覺到一股非常強烈的壓力來自於家人
但卻沒有看到P大很強烈要唸MBA這個東西的動機
也許這是老生常談了,但我覺得這個很重要

以你目前的狀況申請學校,如果你要申請R2的話,真的有點趕(尚未考IBT跟準備Essay的狀況下)
一切趕的結果,很多細節會處裡的不夠好

如果申請R3,R4的話,如板上大大所講的,錄取的機率會相對比R1R2相對低很多


現在重點在於你怎麼看MBA這個degree在你往後的職場或者是見識產生什麼樣的槓桿效果
根據你的敘述,我們只看到很多個"可能" 但沒有一樣是確定的


我倒是認為可以嘗試的去做下面這些事情

-參加各個學校的information session
-與身邊週遭那些從國外拿到MBA學位,目前在職場有一片天的人談談
-多參予咖啡店舉辦的聚會互相分享(如果沒有人辦,你可以主動邀約,咖啡店是一個好的平台)


多多與人討論,一定可以獲得到一些想法的

Simply one question, are you sure you know why and for what are you applying for MBA? If you can well articulate this question in a really compelling way, it means you are ready, no matter how many "years" of working experiences you have. Otherwise, you may not.

我想您說到了一個重點：我現在很大的壓力都是來自於家人與女友。

大家都覺得我幹嘛這麼愛拖，趕快出國念一念回來比較重要。

女友甚至還說：「反正你愛拖就拖，我不見得會等下去。」

但是我知道我現在申請的確非常趕，R2都不見得能趕的上；

而且重點是即使我有強烈的意願要去念MBA，我也想知道我該念什麼領域的。

所以我才萌生了改申請2011年的念頭，一方面給自己多一些時間準備申請，二方面也是能在從工作中了解自己的方向。

最近查了很多學校的資料，許多名列前茅的學校MBA入學平均年齡是30Y+，工作經驗平均是3.5Y

為什麼美國人又不必當兵幹嘛不念完大學就去念個MBA？

他們也是很愛拖嗎？有時候我也滿想這樣說的。

現在心情真的很DOWN

不過還是謝謝J大的文章，剛好我身邊的同學大部分都才念完MBA回來，所以能夠請教的人不是很多，

我想我會再找找看是否有人願意跟我分享一下，再次謝謝您！

1. Since I majored in Economics and was not very skillful at any specific field, I would like to give me a chance to gain more practical knowledge through the MBA curriculum.

2. As I know, through the case study and discussion, the students can leran more about how to analysis a problem in a logic way. Also, the MBA curriculum can bring up other abilities which are useful in the real business world.

3. I would like to have a master degree, board my view, and improve my English.

Let me try to answer you from the perspective of the admission office.

1. Well, good to know another applicant , aside from several thousands w/ the same Economic background. You're not skillful in any specific field, then what else you are skillful?

2. Sure I know the MBA curriculum can bring up abilities in a real business world. But, what business world you want to be in?

3. You want to have a Master degree? Good! There're thousands in the US and countless in the World I believe would better fit you, especially those who can help you to improve your English.

If you got really solid working experiences to tell me, I think they would help. But I found you don't really know the game and you're not ready for it at all. That's the point.
