Preparing for Stanford essays is like a self-reflection process and it's been an amazing journey in which I get closer to myself. I'd like to post it here cause I'd been benefited from this website for too long!
Thanks for everyone in 傷咖 who'd supported me. Happy New Year! :)

CONGRATULATIONS!

Is it also possible to share with us how you brainstormed for your essays and articulated "what matters most to you and why" and the "why Stanford" portions? Thanks in advance for sharing : )

Thanks all.

My thoughts for the essays-
1. "What matters most to you? Why? " -
I personally feel that this 'first impression' kinda decides adcom's appetite for the following essays. What I did is that I thought really thoroughly about the 'key incidents' happened in my life-from family, schools, extracurricular activity, and career, without presetting any answers to this question. (一開始試圖回答這一題的時候,的確會想要編一些"聽起來好像頗fit"的答案,例如diversity of life experiences,但之後會發現很難下筆,即使寫出來也難以感動自己)

When I put down all the important stories that I am proud of /would love to share with others, I realized that there were certain common values which either influenced me to make some decisions, or shaped my perspectives & personalities. These values are what matters most to me. And through telling these stories, the "Why" part could be natually understood and explained.

2. "Why Stanford" -
I spent alot of time figuring out which school I'm interested in the most. And of course I wrote more than one reason in the essays (i.e. courses/resources of certain fields), but the most critical motivation is - People. From the interview with alumni I also felt that "People" is what GSB students appreciate the most. So I'd recommend that this point be addressed in essays and interview.

3. I think that these 2 essays distinguish Stanford from others; they DO care who you are, where you're coming from-your background and past experiences lead to who you are today, and your inner-drive & personality.

From the interview it shows the same way- Stanford DO care about the 'stories', your personal stories. Therefore my recommendation is- think carefully of 2~3 stories that best represent you and your characters/strengths, show your passion, and be yourself!

Happy New Year!

CONGRATULATIONS~~: )
Thanks for your sharing. Good to know 'how' to come out the idea for each essay~

However, I wonder how you differentiate yourself from others in this essay, "why Stanford"?
(I believe the incentive. 'diverse people/cultures/background/network', is common and must be chosen by many many people.)

Thanks again~:D

here's my thoughts for "Why Stanford":

1. Why xxx school 有很多種思考方式, but I think most of them have to be linked with your career goal. In fact, 這從它essay的問題本身就看的出來-What are your career aspirations? How will your education at Stanford help you achieve them? When you build up the linkage between "career goal" and "what do you want out of Stanford", you'd be able to fill in the question.

2. I'm not sure which way could be really 'differentiated', so here's just my personal opinion. My theme was about entrepreneurship, thus I focus more on Stanford's resources on this particular area, i.e. the curriculum, and I also identified courses that I am specifically interested in. It's also an opportunity to show that you made effort to understand the strength of the school.

3. I also appreciate its clost-knit learning environment and the exposure to silicon valley- the two extra reasons to the question.
