目前有規劃畢業後進入顧問業
先說一下我的背景：三年會計師事務所、一年外商投信、三年證券承銷商

我的Gpa及gmat成績，無法進入top20的學校
但看了之前文章都說，美國在地的顧問業都一定是前15的學校

我想請問：

1.以我過去的背景，進mba後，要主修什麼對於進顧問業會有幫助?想知道entrepreneur對進consulting firm是否有幫助?
2.若最後申請完，是前20-50的學校，那麼打算回亞洲的consulting firm的機會是不是會比留在美國找工作機會大?

需請各位前輩指教....

修什麼對進顧問業有幫助，等同想成修什麼課對破解case interview有幫助。
基本上CASE interview的內容無所不包，會計到財務都有。
所以我的建議是第一年什麼都要修，包括行銷，財務，會計，營管等等，對樓主在解CASE的思路才有幫助。

2.若最後申請完，是前20-50的學校，那麼打算回亞洲的consulting firm的機會是不是會比留在美國找工作機會大?

要看你想進什麼顧問公司？ 基本上如果是想進管理顧問公司
例如 Mck, BCG, Bain, ATK, Booz Allen, Monitor
這幾家基本上都是鎖定Top15的學生，美國亞洲皆然 （幾乎都是全球統一徵才標準）

但是如果你想應徵的是 PWC, ABeam, 或是 Accenture 等等的IT或是operation 顧問公司，標準則相對不會那麼嚴格，基本上MBA前30 都有面試機會，但是一樣要通過CASE面試才會錄取。

Consulting不是我這杯茶, 所知不多...
小小聲問一下, 我們不是top 15, 不過你講的這些management consulting firms, BCG, Bain, ATK, Booz Allen等等的, 都有來我們學校招人說, 麥肯錫雖然沒有on campus recruitment活動, 不過也透過學校的consulting club鼓勵學生apply, 我也認識有vanderbilt畢業去了麥肯錫的... 這個top 15的限制是不是也depends on 各公司每年的recruiting policy?

你在INSEAD嗎?我本來對INSEAD也蠻有興趣的
但發現學校修課時數蠻短的-10個月的課程
另外，看了一下學校GMAT成績要求，覺得自己希望不大
所以沒有申請~

我雖然工作經驗豐富，但是我的GMAT630，GPA也才2.9
所以要進前20，應該是不太可能~~

其實你說的很對，我也相信這些顧問公司絕對有去Top 15 -30 的學校徵才，，不過重點在於能夠真正進入這些公司的比例佔極少 (1-3位 per class) 而亞洲人又佔的更少`(0-1)。 因此除非面試者真的是非常傑出，否則難度極高。

身為版主，我總是希望給大家一個客觀的數字，合理的期待。

Just a perspective from USC:

Top Consulting Companies don't have on-campus recruiting in USC. The consulting firms with most presence in USC are probably Deloitte and Pwc. Over that last few years (3 or 4), I think only 1 student received a full-time offer from Mckinsey. Deloitte uses Case interview. Pwc is mostly behavioral. We do have some presence in internal consulting and boutique consulting on the west coast.

感謝Cburger的補充說明， 近兩年確實是有一位USC以及一位印第安那的MBA畢業生錄取台北麥肯錫。

另外也說明一點，以上公司的 list 少了PWC與 Deloitte (ABeam)。主要是因為商周並沒有標示該畢業生是進入PWC 與 Deloitte的 consulting or accounting 相關部門。 因此，在無法區分的行況下 我就沒有列出了。

boutique consulting 是一個蠻好的機會，諸如 PRTM, Charter, Diamond 等等。 這些公司因為在搶人上無法與Top consulting firm 競爭，所以很多會鎖定到 Top40 以內的學生。

然而boutique consulting的問題在於公司規模小，所以名額非常少。一年可能全球只招個位數。再加上缺少全球化的規模，很多在亞洲都沒有分部，也造成普遍偏愛美國人的現象。

請問一下boutique consulting firm的定義是什麼呢？有哪些公司算在內呢？

基本上規模比較小 比較缺少國際 exposure 的都算是

像是 PRTM, Diamondcluster, Cambridge Association,
Charter consulting 等等

總規模都在一千人上下

To me, consulting firms can be basically separated into 3 levels:

Top Tier (Strategic Management Consulting):

These are the big shots: McKinsey, BCG, Booz Allen, Bain & Company, etc. These firms provide strategic initiatives and directions

2nd Tier (function/industry based consulting):

These are firms like Pwc, Deloitte, IBM, Accenture, PRTM, etc. These firms often take the strategic direction of their customers (which in some cases are developed by the top-tiered consulting firm) and implement an execution plan in their perspective fields (finance, IT, etc)

3rd Tier (boutique consulting)

These are firms that are in many ways similar to 2nd tier firms, but at a much more limited scale. These firms are usually regional and very industry/function focused. You usually need to be familiar with the local industry to be able to dig these firms out. Some example would be entertainment-related consulting in California.

Just notice that Darden is not on the list, but most of consulting firms did hire Darden students every year.
