UT is indeed ranked number one by the most current US News report, and it has been constantly ranked top 3 in the past five years. However, being number one means absolutely nothing in the accounting world. It will not provide you with any advantage when searching jobs in public accounting firms. As a matter of fact, it will hurt you since big four firms generally implement a “quota” system, meaning they would only take a certain number of students from a certain school in order to achieve what they so called “diversity.” Therefore, when it comes down to pick one out of a few Chinese speakers, often your nice neighbors from China get picked because they generally have more public accounting experience in China and they usually perform better in their interviews. (God knows how much time they spend to memorize their lines, but they just speak better during their interview processes.)
Anyhow, UT does provide a solid academic education. You will have to spend a year and a half to study for a MS program. (Whereas most MS-accounting programs only take a year.) You might find it enjoyable when your focus is learning instead of getting a big four job.
