W: But now, (3) most of the slave-maker ants, they could do the work for themselves, couldn’t they?
M: I guess so, but then there are those Amazon ants. Do you remember those?
W: mm… The Amazon ants. Oh, those were slave-make ants that are actually depended on the ants enslaved. Now where will we start again?
M: Let me see, here it is. The size of their mandible, yeah, it was (4) because to have those really long curvy mandibles.
W: Oh, yeah! Those are jaws.
M: Right! (5) Those mandibles are so big and the Amazon ants can’t even get their own food or dig nests for themselves. So they need the slaves to get the food and dig the nests for them.
W: That makes sense! Now could we go back to the part on how they capture the slaves? We were talking before about how some slave-make ants go into other nests and bring back pupae to become slave. But they can also take over the whole colony, right?
M: Yeah, the queen ant after she mates, she is carrying her own eggs. And what she does is she goes into another colony of other species. She takes over the colony and those other ants, the slaves, start working for her and then she lays her eggs.
W: But the colony she invades is already got its own queen, so…
M: yeah, if she doesn’t cooperate, the slave-make ant will kill that queen. And then when she hatches own eggs they become adults and they become slave-maker ants too.
W: And then they go out to rip other ant nests for pupae and bring back as their slaves.

(1) 請問此處的get captured by 是說會被別的colony的螞蟻給搬走的意思嘛? 被搬走, 然後變成搬走它們的螞蟻的slaves嗎? 也就是變成賊的奴隸的意思嗎?

(2)slave-maker ant是說這種蟻專門在偷人家的pupae, 然後帶回家變成自己的slaves這樣嗎? slave-maker ants like to own other nests 這句是說它們有自己的nest, 所以是說它們這種螞蟻, 整窩都是slave-maker ant, 不會有蟻后嗎? 不然為什麼要說own "other" nest?
後面的那句 they are like the slaves of the other ants. , other ants指的是前面說的slave-maker ants嗎? 也就是說它們長大成人后, 變成偷竊它們的螞蟻的奴隸?

(3) most of the slave-maker ants, they could do the work for themselves, couldn’t they? 這句好像是講說slave-maker ant會做是自己照顧自己? 如果這樣, 那它們偷來的那些slave不是就是在伺候它們嗎? 那為什麼又說它們自己do the work for themselves呢? 而且那不是跟後面的those were slave-make ants that are actually depended on the ants enslaved 這一句相矛盾嗎?

(4) 這裡的because怎麼好像沒頭沒腦的? 因為後面mandible很大, 所以怎樣?????? 這裡為什麼會突然出現because? 覺得前不著店, 後不著村的...

(5) 這邊說到這些螞蟻mandible那麼大, 還不能自己找食物和築巢
, 那連接詞不是應該用but嗎?? 為什麼還用and?

(3)slave就是在伺候slave-maker ants沒錯，所以mm才會問gg "但是大部分的slaver-maker其實是可以自己做那些工作的吧！" mm的意思就是萬一slaver-maker ants都沒抓到半隻slave，他們是不是可以自己完成那些原本slave會幫他們做的工作。
gg回答："我想是這樣沒錯，但有一種Amazon ants，記得嗎？" gg的意思就是大部分的slaver-maker ants不用靠slave也可以自己來，除了Amazon ants。
所以mm才會接著說："喔...Amazon ants，他們就是一定得依賴slave的slave-maker ants。"
