其實你這一題應該仔細看看他的解釋，寫的真是好

兩個重點提醒
一是表因果關係用are caused by 比 are because of 好
二是interaction of 比interaction between好很多

the number of N 純粹是句型,指N的數目,主詞是number接的當然是單數

經查證後發現我的印象是錯的。

為什麼不能當作任意的兩顆星來說呢?

因為要orbit each other

本來就只能由兩主體(兩顆星)來完成

還是因為前面的the interaction

有指定的關係才不能用that

我看過OG解釋了

但對限定 / 非限定還是有一點小疑問

不是很明白two star that orbit 跟 two star orbiting 的差異

上句等於Peter's father living in the US is a policeman. 嗎?

“Peter 住在美國的爸爸是警察。”
代表Peter還有其他爸爸住在其他國家
logical flaw！

我估計two star orbiting應該是這樣改來的

本來的理解是two star that orbit 跟 two star orbiting理論上應該相等,可是OG顯然不認同,這應該怎麼解釋呢?

上句等於Peter’s father, living in the US, is a policeman.嗎?

“Peter的爸爸住在美國，是警察。”

我之前對限定非限定的理解還停留在有逗號跟沒逗號的觀點上

有看到類似的用法

這應該是形容詞子句簡化為分詞構句的形式

(去which/that, 改主動動詞為V-ing & 改被動動詞為V-ed)

只是我還是不明白有that跟省略that的差異:sad

OG對(C)的解釋
the phrase two stars that orbit each other illogically suggests that there are two particular stars causing all the phenomena in question, rather than various sets of stars in various locations

Sorry, 才刚刚回了文, 马上看到Cambridge文法Unit 96中有说明, -ing和-ed clause的用法
以下po出原文给大家参考:

B. We use –ing clauses to say what somebody (or something) is doing (or was doing) at a particular time.
强调正在进行动作

Do you know the woman talking to Tom? (The women is talking to Tom)
Police investigating the crime are looking for three men. (Police are investigating the crime)
Who were those people waiting outside? (they were waiting)
I was woken up by a bell ringing. (a bell was ringing)
C. When you are talking about things (and sometimes people), you can use an –ing clause to say what something does all the time, not just at a particular time. For example:
强调 all the time的一般性, 非一次性

The road joining the two villages is very narrow. (the road joins the two villages)
I live in a pleasant room overlooking the garden. (the room overlooks the garden)

OG 237 (C)的解释: 是说明(E)使用orbiting, 强调事件的一般性(泛指), 不能使用(C)that+S+V..指特定的两颗星星
