1.這題A不能選是句意會錯
2.as it was of earlier generations→it代替前面的goal，因為不要重複，如果把goal放回來→as a goal was of earlier generations→翻譯：是早一代的目標
3.(A)的 like that of earlier generations→翻譯：像早一代的目標
4.在OG哩，as翻成是，like翻成像
5.這題裡的goal確實是，早一代的goal，所以要用as

我原本也是選A，之後仔細想想答案是E的原因有可能是：
句意是指owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land這件事也是earlier generations的goal，所以如果選A，只是在強調goal這個字，而非強調整件事，E的it即是指這件事(it was (a goal)of earlier generations)。

Ex:1.N+介片...the same as/比較級+than that/those+介
片...：比N；
2.S1+V1...,as S2+V2...:比整個子句。

所以我想這題可能是指第2個狀況。
不知道這樣想對不對？

我是這樣想的:後面 earlier generations 的時間比前面子句早,要看到動詞,所以選項找有動詞並且更早時態的 => (C) (D) (E)
ETS 講對稱.前面子句的主詞是 owning and living, 後面變成 earlier generations 不對稱 => 刪除 (C) (D)
=> (E) : it 對應 owning and living; of earlier generations 對應 of a majority of young adults.
