我不確定這是否是所謂的同位語, 但如果根據這2句話的意思:
these slowly moving masses of ice指的應該就是glaciers
作者的意思應該只是想把冰河形成之後會出現的狀況描述出來:
譬如說會緩慢的移動(slowly moveing), 會把峽谷切開(cut out valleys), 會帶著大量被侵蝕後的岩石碎片(huge quantities of eroded rock debris).

這應該叫做分詞構句吧
(到底文法名詞叫啥我也不確定，只知道不會是同位語)

原句可以看成是

省略掉主詞和be動詞就變成
Glaciers may form in permanently cold areas,and these slowly moving masses of ice cut out valleys,carrying with them huge quantities of eroded rock debris

省略掉的carry的主詞
事實上就是these slowly moving masses of ice
也等於是glaciers
