就是 vehicles powered by nature gas emit fewer of certain pollutants than (vehicles) burning gasoline or diesel fuel do

pollutants不是可數的嗎?為什麼是用less?
是因為less of 在此是當名詞用，表示較少的數量?
那less of 後面接的名詞不管可數或是不可數都可以嗎?

是的。less可以當名詞，但fewer不行。所以當名詞時，只能用less，後面可數不可數都行。

V N1 of N2，重點是V N1(用大衛輕功水上飄)
而只有fewer + 可數名詞 的用法
字典好像查不到fewer of 複數名詞，可是卻查的到less of 用法

less 用於指量是連續性的物質, 如 water, polutants 不能一顆一顆數, certain polutants 已經表明就是那些 polutants, 所以也沒有 polutants 種類多寡的爭議, 所以這題注定要選 less.
我覺得是比 fuel, 不是車子. i.e.
vehicles powered by natural gas emit less of certain pollutants than (vehicles powered by) gasoline or diesel fuel (do).
但是天然氣驅動的車子, 跟汽油驅動的車子不是同一部車, 所以後面的 vehicles 並不等於前面的 vehicles; 不能省略 -- those 就這個用意.
(A) (C) 比的是同樣那些車, 句意不合理(現在有hybrid車,但是也不能同時用天然氣跟汽油驅動), 所以不選.

前面用被動,後面用主動,我覺得不是很對稱,雖然平衡結構(都是動詞)OK.
