[問題]考古Form14-Q24

24.The rate of growth in would food supplies is now slowing while the would's population[u] continue increasing[/u]
A. continue increasing
B. contnue to increase
C. continues its increase
D continues to increase
E. is continuing its increase


Actually I know the answer is D.
My question is: are there differences between the form that continue to +V and the form that continue+Ving ? Or they are basically the same?

硬要分的話.....
continue to V 指原動作有個停頓後再繼續動作.
continue Ving 指原動作繼續下去,沒有停頓過.
但是這題似乎不是從這個角度去解題.

I think the usage "continue to V" is better than "continue +ving" , especially in GMAT test.

這一題的問題, 既然前面是用 "the ratio of growth... is now slowing...", 為什麼後面不可以用 "is continuing its increase" 呢? 不是都是現在進行式嗎?

恩..雖然我也不是很確定
不過我提出我自己寫這題時的感覺給妳參考一下囉

因為老莫說過題目是動詞的話，就不要去改變它的詞性
譬如把它改成名詞之類的

所以我看到題目是continue時
就覺得這題應該是在考動名詞一致..
所以就選D

供妳參考囉~

小弟的看法是
(C)(E)不選,因為its是the rate of growth 還是 the world's population的所有格呢?
(A)(B)不選,因為the world's population為單數
