Choice A is best. In B, the participle staging inappropriately expresses ongoing rather than completed action, and the prepositional phrase containing this participle (with... it) is unidiomatic. Likewise, C uses the participle being inappropriately. In D, the use of Excepting in place of the preposition Except for is unidiomatic. Choice E is awkward and wordy.

在考題中該如何取捨呢?

靠語意吧...主要差別在於

Besides A 表示除了包括A以外,還有...

Except for A表示不包括A...

請教一下，
選項D中的excepting在意義上不是也是除了..之外，
在這裡並不能取代except for使用是為什麼?

可是我發現excepting和except for這兩個基本上是一樣的，
都有除了..之外的意義，其後也都是接名詞或代名詞，
是有這種用法的，
在這裡不能用是否是因為非GMAT中慣用法... *-)

莫伯伯有說excepting以前可以,但已經被廢了.是廢字

besides A和in addition to A---------有包含A之意,翻譯為除了有A還有B....
except A和except for A----------------------有不把A包含在內之義,翻譯為除了A之外(A不算),有B....

如果改成ving就都帶有正在進行的意思, 那很多關代+V 要改成 Ving.....
難道都要把這點考慮進去,而不能想成只是較簡潔而已嗎？

(B)錯誤可以這樣解讀
Except for a concert performance with the composer himself staging it

1. with the composer himself staging it
可以有兩種解釋
(1) with the composer himself who staged it
(2) with the composer himself who stages it
因此改成staging的用法不是不行，而是常會有ambiguity的問題，如果有像(A)這樣更好的選項時（不會ambiguity)，還是要以(A)的形式為主。

2. Except for a concert performance with the composer himself
staging it(=performance)
翻成中文會變成：有作曲家登台表演的表演，無論是英文或是中文都是贅詞（畫線的"表演")。

3. 以句意來說，用adj子句或是用with介系詞片語意思不同！
印象中老莫的解釋是用這兩個例句
A girl who has a big mouse→ 有大嘴巴的女孩很漂亮
A girl with a big mouse→女孩有大嘴巴
以句意是最大根據的基礎下，(A)選項仍然比較好喔！
