Dear ALL:
Emory is a rising star in the MBA ranking, what do you guys find is the most attractive parts of its curriculum and what's the school's core to attract potential students?

I definitely believe that Emory is one of the great B-schools, but for a school at the bottom part of top 20, the Yield is often low. Would like to know in which aspect the school is focusing to admit the applicants that will fit in the school and how the school persuade those into choosing Emory.

may I answer something for you?

it seems a bit strange here,
the questions above should be answered by applicants, not by schools.
The information is already provided on program website.

It's a resource trade between school and applicants.
When asking this kind of question, it's better to provide some of your contributions to exchange resources from top schools. Even the Yield is not that high as the most top ones, it's still very high comparing with others. It deserved to be appriciated and be traded with equivalent resources.

As I know, Ms. Charlene already got a 700+.

Thanks for your correction. I am sorry that I did not specify my question and I should have narrow it down.

As far as I know, Emory's location seems not as attractive as most of the top schools in Northeast area. What makes Emory student stand out within the cruel competition on job searching? How can career center help students enter top companies after they graduate?

By the way, I am not sure if Emory join in MBA tour and visit Boston. But I will be there. Hope to get useful information from adcom members.

Hi Charlene,

Emory locates in Atlanta where is the headquarter of many famous companies , such as Coca-Cola, Delta Airline and Home Depot. So it is actually a city with a lot of job opportunities. Actually, every year, the students of some B-schools will fly to Atlanta to do internship or job searching.

You may notice that our school is no.1 in BW's leadership ranking, which means that we focus a lot on training student's soft skill. This is crucial whether for job interviews or working in a team.

As a first year student who only arrived here for one month, I feel that our CMC office is pretty active. They arranged all kinds of mentor to help us with resume modification and interview practice. We also have a class called "G-Plus" which is deisgned for job searching.

As to the MBA tour, you can go to our website for details.

One more thing, the people here, whether the faculty or students, are exactly what I expected before I came here. This is what I cared most when applying for a school. So, try your best to talk with current students and faculty of each school, feel its culture.

In terms of the companies you listed above, I don't see the consulting companies. Does it mean most of Emory students end up with manufacturing, retail and so forth? If my goal is to enter consulting in big city such as NYC or Boston, does Emory have strong alumni networking out there?

Our graduates works in various areas from consulting to Investment Banking to industry. We have supportive alumni and strong networking. But whether you can enter a consulting firm in the states still depends on your own qualification. This is my advice.

In terms of the companies you listed above, I don't see the consulting companies. Does it mean most of Emory students end up with manufacturing, retail and so forth? If my goal is to enter consulting in big city such as NYC or Boston, does Emory have strong alumni networking out there?

You might be surprised that there are actually many consultants who chose Atlanta as their first or second priority when they were hired, and the reason is very simple: the work - life balance is a lot better here in Atlanta.

If you are interested in Consulting, you must know that the biggest problem of consulting is its long working hours + frequent travels. So it's really up to you: location or life style....

By the way, all of the famous consulting companies are recruiting from Goizueta every year. I'm not a consulting people, but as far as I know, once you got offer from these companies, most of them will let you choose location as long as there are openings. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't do any research on this topic since it's not my concentration, so it might be a bit subjective. I'd love to ask Bailey to post her opinion when she has time.

I also encourage all of you who are interested in applying Emory, to talk to our students, our faculty, and our alumni. Good questions can not only help you to understand more about us, but more importantly, to understand more about yourself - whether Goizueta Business School fits you or not.
