這一題我主要用後面的句子來解的

1. 首先看到their trunks，我就把B和D刪掉

2. 試著還原後半句
as the rate at which trees grow is seen in the rings visible in the cross sections of their trunks

C. the rate at which trees grow is believed to be among the surest indications of sunspot cycles

相同的地方省略

所以我覺得C比較好，有錯請指正

選項C與選項E其實就是在考脫節
當你看到逗點後 as seen in the rings.....
直接改成分詞,必定是少了S
那就直接往前找主要子句的S
若改成了被動,也就犯了脫節的錯誤
這提最快速的破解就是找主要子句的S是否能與as後面的文意搭上線(也就是脫節)
應該是能快速的選到C選項

真是太震驚了...竟然會是E
這不禁讓我想起一開頭有人提起CD上的爭論
對岸有牛人認為on earth的位置有爭議之處

如果真是E的話,姑且讓敝人在下事後諸葛一番
其實C和E的差別主要有二處
1.倒裝與否
2.on earth的位置

但倒裝與否理論上應該不至於構成修辭錯誤的原因
難道on earth真是關鍵所在?on earth介入後不會造成歧意嗎?


先就C來說,C的句意:
在地球上,樹木生長的速度被(人們)相信是最確切的指標-->(改成主動)在地球上,人們相信...

引申的涵義就是:
不在地球上時(例如太空中或外星球),樹木生長的速度不被(人們)相信是最確切的指標-->(改成主動)不在地球上時,人們就不相信...

這樣的句意的確有吊詭之處


再就E來說,E的句意:
樹木生長的速度被(人們)相信是在地球上最確切的sunspot cycles指標-->看起來相當合理

但也有人說會造成歧意
樹木生長的速度被(人們)相信是在有sunspot cycles的地球上最確切的指標-->雖然這並非一般人所能接受的句意

E雖非毫無瑕疵,但C也有所爭議,既然有人說PP給的是E,那大家斟酌斟酌吧,如果非要問個明白,Mail to ETS...

跟大家分享一下 我的解題概念
本題 用倒裝結構 為了讓句子漂亮一點把原題主詞倒裝 靠近最後面的省略副詞子句
所以沒有修飾語的問題 （這是跟C最大的差別）雖然副詞子句都是抓原題主詞 可是E比較近
the rate at which trees grow is believed to be among the surest indications of sunspot cycles
上述紅藍對調 讓主詞the rate靠近as seen....

另外大家有的問題是 on earth 我反而覺得這題on earth一定要放在E那個位置 才對
因為我覺得句意上是強調在地球上(對sunspot cycle)最確定的指標
如果把on earth 放到 of sunspot cycles後面 會造成讀者誤會不知on earth修飾誰
所以on earth緊跟著要修飾的 indications 插在原本的修飾of sunspot cycles中間
這個位置是沒辦法中的辦法 （考古題裡好像也有這樣的用法）

至於(C) On earth放在最前面我覺得無法那麼精確的表達上面的概念
CE都是好答案 可是感覺E更為精確

但考試時能夠想這麼多的人 也不需要來這邊討論了 明天就可以直接報名考試了

我選E

當時沒有考慮到主語的問題,只是句意上E比較暢通,且"their" trunks代名詞明顯指代trees

因為, 未畫線的地方是在說明樹的特點(as seen in the rings visible in the cross sections of their trunks),當下就刪除B.C.D.

接下來從on earth的位置所修飾的對象(indications)決定E

但是覺得as seen ... 的結構不太明白

答案C單獨看沒有錯...但是重點在於後面的as句子...
主要是對應trees...不是對應the rate...

注意一下後面的"their"....代名詞優先代替原句主詞...答案很明顯了~~~

藍色部份和紅色部分位置對調,原本修飾紅色部分的on earth當然也跟著往前提,括號部分的內容屬舊資訊,故可以刪除
整理之後就會變成選項E的模樣

選項C的on earth提到句首變成修飾全句,在意思上會有些許不同

雖然整理出上述的說明
但小弟有一問題百思不得其解--為何要倒裝?
原句並無由重到輕的問題,主句和從句間也很平衡和工整..不解
難道只是變化on earth的位置,產生修飾語誤置的問題?
