這一題真是很奇怪…be likely to失靈:P

OG的解釋更怪: When more is used in the comparative form of adjective (more difficult) or adverb (more likely), it is followed by than.
我可以理解如果一般比較是more likely than….的句型
但怎麼是more than likely….??
我查了Longman 有一個例句是 more than likely = almost certain 是慣用片語
It is more than likely (=almost certain) the votes will have to be counted again.
這樣似乎比較能理解more than likely 修飾began….
不知道這樣對不對
有沒有人可以幫忙一下 more than likely怎樣理解才對?

"more than likely" 應可翻譯為"很有可能地",是慣用法.
至於這一句的but應該是當副詞用,如果當連接詞用,後面
要接S+V

but是當連接詞用應該沒錯,因為後面還有一個動詞
只是省略相同的主詞

剛剛查了Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English,
這裡的but的確當連接詞用,通常接在否定句後,強調第二部分的
真實性.如果but當副詞用,解釋為"only",用在原題的句意就顯的
怪怪的.

not... but 平衡: 'was not' +N1 ,but 'was' +N2
名詞 N1 要對應名詞 N2; N1 = speech, (A) 對應的是 to begin (動詞), 所以不平衡.
(B) 'was'... ,but 'began'... '動詞'平衡'動詞'
