今天的面試官是Pa'lee Showalter,看起來似乎是中南美洲血統的一位女性;面試過程大約45分鐘(因為下一批10:15的group已經在旁邊等候)
Pa'lee簡單的感謝我的耐心等候後,就進入面試問題:
1.Why MBA? Why UW?
2.If I were the employer of Amazon, Microsoft, or any other companies in Seattle and you are applying the job in our company with other 10 UW MBA graduated candidates, give me the reason why I must choose you but not the others
3. Do you have anything you didn't mentioned in essays or application but you really want to share with me?
4. What would you do when you face faliure?
5. What would be the most difficult situation for you when you study MBA?
6. What's your weakness on your application?
7. Is there anything you are doing now for preparing MBA program
8. Taking questions
老實說,我覺得我回答實在不怎麼樣(從Pa'lee問問題的感覺),內心其實頗沮喪的,因為UW是我的第一志願,很大的原因是我對Seattle和UW這間學校的熱愛,反而跟program沒什麼太大的關係;所以回答時我也很誠實的跟Pa'lee說很多是emotional的因素,因為我愛這個城市..(真的很鳥...可能在面對最愛的人時只能無意識的說"我愛妳"而無法給一個確切的reason)
Pa'lee並沒有太多狀聲詞或動作上的reactions,我會覺得她是屬於比較冷調性的面試官.甚至我會建議之後要跟Pa'lee interview的applicants盡可能把你的答案簡化(Give her precise answer with exact examples)會這麼說的原因是因為我覺得Pa'lee其實有幾次都已經表達想要打斷我的意思(這個reaction讓我覺得更糟了~~~
)
個人覺得Pa'lee是個很靈活的面試官,雖然問我的問題沒有很不同於一般的面試題目(比較不同的大概屬假設自己apply 工作那一題吧?!)但是在我等待前面兩位面試者的過程中,我聽到了Pa'lee針對applicant的興趣,隨機拿了她的name card holder 好像問了applicant如果你想做marketing,那你從marketing的角度覺得這個name card holder如何之類的問題...(如果那兩位applicants有上傷咖,要跟你們說抱歉我等待時不時的在聆聽你們對話內容...雖然這種時候偷聽是人之常情)
到了最後,或許因為我問的問題,我覺得Pa'lee比較親切了,但為時已晚...因為都要結束了.
再給大家一些Pa'lee的background,她是UW admission 的associate director, 我想應該是去年才到UW的吧?!在這之前其實她是在University of Chicago GSB admission服務, 而且是在enterpreneurship program, 所以如果有其他applicants是對enterpreneurship有興趣的,我想可以多跟Pa'lee談談這一方面的career goal;加上UW的專長之一就是enterpreneurship,相信會加分不少~~
(以我的表現應該沒啥機會進去了...個人還是由衷地覺得UW是間好學校,希望這篇interview sharing多少提供之後的applicants一些方向;然後有個拋磚引玉的效果,其他有進行到group interview的applicants也可以一起分享group interview的感覺)
p.s.據說,以後的UW MBA 都會以in person interview為admission decision的必備條件,Pa'lee說校方覺得感受到申請者當面的反應是很重要的而且比較能衡量申請者sharing的能力(有另一說是今年的台灣學生似乎表現比較沒那麼好?! No offense...這個原因我不確定)但希望大家都能繼續加油
