一人一封信, 讓ETS知道外國人的心聲

剛才寫信去ETS complain如下, 北美的考場真是爛還是台灣的好.

Today I took a IBT test in Anahiem, CA and I have a lot of complaint about it. The test place is just a formal computer lab and it is so terrible because there is no any partition to separate every seat. I could see another screen in front of me, also other people behind me could see my screen. The noise from other test takers was so annoying, so I was hard to concentrate on the test. In addition, the proctor's cell phone was ringing several times. He only asked test takers to turn off thier phone, but he didn't do it. Moreover, he was so annoying when he took a picture for test takers and speak with regular volume. I think the computer for taking picture should be set at out of the test room. Furthermore, the chair was so uncomfortable. If ets requires a long period test and costly test fee, you should provide a good enviornment for test takers. An annoying and uncomfortable environment could cause test takers fail the test. It is unfair to us. After finishing the test, my back was painful. I though maybe ets doesn't care foreigners' health. Don't you know sitting too long is harmful? In my opinion, I don't understand why ets ask foreign students should take a such hard test for enrolling school. Many students have talent at their major, but they couldn't study in a good university by the picky TOEFL. More and more people would consider to study in China because China is a huge market. Then, people will less come and study in the U.S. because the picky and costly TOEFL.
Indeed, I hope you could improve your test places and quality. Please don't only ask for money, but never offer a fair service.

我是在virginia考ibt,和樓主情況非常像.在北美考場一樣很難預約,有預約到,考場可能和你的所在地相距很遠

像我當天租了車,要開143miles單程,才會到考場,我很詳細查了路線,飛車花了兩個半小時才到,和我同一考場好巧有兩個台灣同學和我出發地相同,卻從中午12點迷路到下午5點半才到,一到考場也是傻眼,就是圖書館地下層的電腦教室,沒有隔板,時間是6:30開始,我5點到時,他們說我5:30也可以開始考,然後陸陸續續有人來,就進來考,就算超過6:30原本開始時間,還是可以進來考,完全沒有時間控制的制度...於是我整個考試過程,一直聽到有人在唸"describe the city you live....describe the city you live",害我實在忍不住大笑起來,因為實在很吵,又沒有方法可想,一方面又覺得自己和大家一樣很呆像鸚鵡一樣.

總之,板上朋友有想來北美考的,我和樓主的經驗就供大家參考一下,要有心理準備,把錢丟到池塘可能還有"咚"一聲,在這兒USD150丟到ets,就像無底洞,沒有什麼品質的...我是搞不懂這USD150,買到什麼了?是使用電腦,電燈的錢嗎?是那張薄薄的成績單列印費嗎?...面對ets完全沒有制衡方法的.

口試時前面講得又超大聲，還被警告....
ets真的要為考生多想想

我是在中興大學考的 逢甲我就不知道了....
其實考場算ok 設備漫新的 不過我以為有隔間
結果居然是語言中心的大教室.....

還有一個給要去考試的人建議 因為他是一個一個進去的應試的
去還得拿號碼牌等候勒 我原本以為可以四點半就考
結果一直等到五點多才考......
當然啦 電腦連不上ETS就得一直等.......
建議大家早點去 不然就五點再去 省的浪費時間等候 心情又緊張

ps 我真的可以看到右前方的人作答 可惜他早考 已經做到聽力
我還在閱讀 不過重點還是得努力 你怎知道他的答案一定對......

感謝各位的響應.....上各月寫給ETS的那封信ETS只回我兩週內會回覆我, 一個月過去後當然什麽屁回覆都沒有
於是我又寫了一封信去抱怨, 過了兩三天回我一封信, 只叫我去FAQ看相關的問題 (What a GOOD answer!!)
我只能說 ETS實在是一個不負責任的機構, 連回信都這麻沒誠意!!!
原來這就是身為世界強國的美國人的作風 "欺壓弱小".......shame on Americans

看到同樣都是在美國考試的人
真是有夠感同身受

我所去的test center 也是沒有格版 普通電腦教室
倒楣的那天 我還坐在 照 Photot ID前面的那台computer
只要每一個進來 就可以聽到我後方 check考生資料和照相的聲音
考試途中 走廊的談話聲 清楚到我都可以寫在 WRITING PART裡
我並不是在很荒涼的state or city
誇張的ETS 竟然這麼隨便的就讓一個考場這樣成立
寫信去問 當然沒消沒息 連回都沒回
連我只是想要了解哪一個考場有隔板 這樣也可以沒有回應
BUT! 要付什麼費用的時候 卻是來信的很快速

怎麼會有這麼 irresponsible 的 organization 可以handle 全球性的考試
然後我們卻只能一直乖乖的付錢 just because " We can't fight city hall"
諷刺的, 老美遇到不公平的事情 就會敢言敢講的作風
ETS 為什麼要做欺負外國人的行為

150元拿去買名牌還有完善的售後服務, 不喜歡還可以refund
支持 一人一封信 爭取美金150 元應該有的基本要求與負責態度

今天總算收到ETS的回覆了!! 過了兩各月~ >_<
他們回覆說: 我可以選擇重考or退錢!
所以說呢....如果各位也有類似的狀況就寄信去抱怨吧
美國人最怕被人家argue了 .....別讓自己吃了悶虧 勇敢的說出來
即使無法得到回應 至少也可以發洩一下不滿的情緒

據我跟美國人做生意及文化的了解
他們不會坐視不管的
但大家要多寫信給他們
我建議大家可以也把這個當作是wrting的練習
畢竟花不了你3-5分鐘
請大家想一想,你是全世界花 USD 150送錢給ETS的人
你是消費者,你有權益請他們去改善考場的設備,即使是國外國內都一樣
當初他們在設計考題時,就應該知道iBT會面臨到的situation
而不是只是矇騙良心收大家的錢
那他們也不過是一個international的A錢中心
我至少知道美國人最怕complain及protest...因為他們常自許是最fair得民族
那我想問,如果放他們這群死白豬在這樣的環境下考中文
他們作何感想...?
而且我們更應該就CBT的考試所衍生出來的問題就沒有iBT來得多的這部分去請他們檢討....
Is this fair to the test takers who are not native speakers ?
We paid the money and we still suffered so much whether the bad feeling from mental or physical sides. Why do we still keep so quiet as sheep.It's so ridiculous and funny that we even cannot ask a reasonable treatment even we play the main role in the test rather than ETS does.
We have the right to ask ETS to modify the content of the test or have the facilities of all test centers being compatible for the speaking test. ETS cannot be the official institution that ask its customers to follow its rules but ignore the feeling of its customers.
Wish you all believe we can change whatever to be reasonable as it is the right way.

對 ETS有不滿的地方就給他寫信 complain吧.
畢竟考一次付出的不只是金錢而已.
是耗費精力與時間的.
