是向您講的沒錯

B的dangling結構完全混亂

C的with開頭是副詞片語在補述一個狀態
在XX狀態下,美國購買了...
後面鬥號又是分詞片語補述另外兩個狀態
是次要結構 非主要資訊即使拿掉並不影響主軸原意
是修釋前句沒錯 但不一定是動詞
此處是修飾領土面積跟範圍

D結構混亂
第二鬥號跟第三鬥號間根本不知在修飾誰

E有一個非常重要的觀念
一樣是次要結構跟主軸結構

with 真要翻的話翻成 "由於" , (我個人認為是補述主要子句)
句子結構為 S (U.S.) + V1 (主要動詞 acquired) + V2ing and V3ing
可參考OG#185題 也有這樣的結構


只是我自己做的時候，
覺得C後面more than doubling its size and bringing 感覺是去修飾four cents an acre 句意怪異

D的more than doubling its size and bringing 就很清楚修飾 828000 miles
只是像大衛說的，2跟3逗號間有點修飾不清


還是選C吧~~

小弟認為more than doubling its size and bringing是伴隨分辭的用
法，用來說明US在取得土地的同時將國土面積和西邊國界都擴展了，屬於
前一句影響後一句的結構，有點前因發生同時產生後果的味道

補充一點，這裡的With個人覺得如果翻成"隨著"，應該會比較容易理解

看到一個觀念覺得應該要釐清一下
英文跟中文是兩個結構完全不同的語言
有時候可能會無法翻譯
也很難硬翻

with在次要結構補述時
是表示一個狀態
應該是"在xx狀態之下"的意思
在第十版的兩百題以後常常提到
若翻"由於"會產生因果關係
改變原始句意
翻"隨著"也不是原始句意
建議用英文思考
否則會有瓶頸無法進步

我覺得Choice B & E 中,
"it"指代錯誤,
1.不能指代購買整件事
2.與後面its指代不同

其他的就如同大大門所說的..

ex: in the 1960's., 才是用"in"

這題的年份用 in 會比較合理. of 表示屬性或來源, Louisiana Purchase 不是 1803 年的屬性,也不是來自 1803 年.
法案的年份用 of 表示屬於那一年通過的法案.美國人的法案多如牛毛,所以常常必須提起年份好讓大家想起是哪一個法案,於是順理成章地在那一年通過的法案就是來自於某年.
