關於行走(2)
上次的行走講了stroll, saunter, ramble和roam,今天我們來
看看stray, rove, wander, meander, hike, loiter和linger。
例如:
Our dog has strayed off somewhere.
我們的狗不知跑到哪里去了。
所以喪家之犬就是a strayed dog。
They roved in distant lands.
他們在遙遠的異鄉流浪。
所以流浪漢就是rover。
I wandered about for hours in the darkness.
他們在黑暗中東遊西蕩地走了好幾個小時。
We meandered through the park.
我們迂回地穿越了公園。
The students trained themselves physically before hiking.
學生們在長途步行前作體能訓練。
loiter和linger是在某處"徘徊"。其中loiter著重于"邊走邊停",linger
表示因不願離去而逗留徘徊。例如:
The boy loitered on his way home.
那男孩在回家的路上邊走邊玩。
She lingered long after the others left.
其他人都離去很久以後她仍逗留徘徊。
◎ 他曾經是個流浪漢。
1 He had been a traveler.
2 He had been a meanderer.
3 He had been a rover.
4 He had been a hiker.

我們已經介紹了普通的慢速行走,現在來看看艱辛的行走。
tramp, plod, trudge, wade, trek是指"重步慢行"或艱難、沈重地
"跋涉",其中trek尤指艱辛的長途旅行。例如:
He tramped up and down the platform waiting for the train.
他腳步沈重地在月臺上走來走去,等候火車。
We plodded along the path of toil.
我們沿著艱辛的小道慢慢前進。
He trudged the deserted road for hours.
他沿著荒蕪的道路吃力地走了幾個小時。
He waded through the weeds on the bank and then into and across the stream.4?
他費力地穿過岸邊的雜草,然後越過小溪。
After years of trekking, they came home at last.
經過多年的長途跋涉,他們終於回到了家鄉。

stagger, totter, falter, stumble, waddle, lurch, toddle是指由於生
病、負傷、醉酒、年幼、年邁走路不穩,"搖搖晃晃地走","蹣跚","踉蹌"。
其中waddle是指"鴨子式的行走",通常比喻胖而腿短的人,走路兩邊搖
擺的樣子。
The watchman although injured managed to stagger to the
phone and call the police!
值班員雖然負了傷,但還是搖晃著走到電話機旁打電話叫警察。
Babies and very old people totter as they walk.
小孩與老年人走路蹣跚。
