收到UCI & Emory的admission

其實是同一天來的
收到UCI 的admission with $15000 fellowship時
已經偷偷爽到泛淚光
但是剛剛在垃圾信件夾找到Emory 的 admission
簡直是爽到翻天
真的很難以置信 剛剛在跟朋友MSN手還在抖
因為我的GMAT才650, 又過了international applicant deadline才把application丟出去, 一切一切就是個 "不可置信"
手還是在抖~~~~~ 我需要平復一下

(Well, 心裡暗想, 還會不會再有其他的奇蹟出現呢..... )

When sharing admissions, could people please post the following items?
1. GMAT score
2. TOEFL score
3. Work experience
4. Background
5. Date of application

Two types of people here on this website would be interested knowing those items.
Prospective students
Degree candidates or alumni

For the first kind of people, they want to know their chances of receiving the admission from their prospective schools.
On the other hand, the second kind of people want to know your background to evaluate whether you are worthy of getting the admission from that particular school. You do not meet the “average” standard but somehow get into a “top” school. People would tend to think that you are just lucky and nothing else. Furthermore, people might even feel that you will ultimately fail because you do not belong to that school first.

Therefore, be smart. Please share the listed items before someone ask.
It will help the current community and also future prospective students.
It will save us time googling the data.

我覺得你第二部份很莫名奇妙,不管我今天怎樣幸運進學校,我為何需要向"別人"來證明我值得進?current students或是校友覺得我不值得又如何?這裡不過就是大家分享自己經驗或是看法的地方,有些太私人的東西人家不想講也不行喔?覺得沒分享成績或是background,不要恭喜不要回人家嘛,你這種建議的理由一點也沒說服力,唸書是自己的事,上哪間學校以後找得到什麼工作,也是自己的事,有需要在這種地方向別人證明"我夠屌,所以成績不夠也值得進好學校"?

這裡不過是個虛擬的論壇,要向校友或是current students證明,以後在該間學校或是生涯上自然有機會,在這種小地方虛擬世界提供背景以資證明,未免太小家子氣.

何況,這些top schools的學生或是校友沒事會來這對上的人品頭論足一番嗎?這也未免把大家都想的太無聊了點.這個論壇人數確實夠多,但也不過是留學社群的一小部份,很多上top school的根本沒來這出沒,第一輪哈佛,華頓,哥倫比亞,MIT,芝加哥都有台灣人上,只是這論壇根本沒啥消息,遑論校友會在這出沒,還去evaluate這傢伙值不值得當我學弟妹勒...想太多...就算他覺得不夠格,又怎樣?寫信去學校叫學校reject上的人嘛?

Can you explain what do you mean by the above statement? I personally don't think any current student or alumni will care the profile of incoming class. The message I am getting from your statement is that current student or alumni may not want "less worthy" acceptant(s) to "tank" the reputation or credit of a school. But shouldn't such "concern" be Adcom's job? Who else has the right to say a accepted candidate is not "worthy"?

I know some schools use 2nd-year students or alumni conducting interview to evaluate a candidate, but those students and alumni actually meet candidates, instead of just reading profiles.

I agree that by sharing one's profile helps future applicants, but I don't seem to understand how it has anything to do with the current students and alumni.

I am sorry that you interpreted my words that way.
I apologize for any misunderstanding.

I did not recall that I particularly ask someone to prove his or herself.
Instead, I merely described two different types of readers who have different incentives reading these articles.
I, myself, belong to the first category I described.
For the people who have or will have an MBA degree, why are they still staying here?
The answer varies. I simply described one of the answers. It was not conclusive, and was not intended to cover all the people.

Please do not take this personal. I am also a perspective student.
I understand people work hard to get whatever they want.

As future MBA students, we all understand that time is money.
How can we operate more efficiently as a team to increase our productivities? Here would be going to one’s dream school.

Do we not all want to spend more time with our friends, family, or even with the GMAT? Spending hours to find something that could have been arranged more clearly just does not make sense.

昨天看到信的時候已經很晚了, 寫完之後已經是一個又High又累的狀況, 所以就直接去睡了, anyway, update some information:

我的GMAT(650)和托福(257)都不高, 雖然GPA3.6, 但是念的是sociology-social work, 所以這種成績也只是above average而已, 可以說所有quantitative的部分都沒有非常亮眼, 之所以還能拿到offer, 工作經驗幫了很大忙。我一畢業就在外商公司做Marketing research and Brand Planning的工作, 到現在洽洽好4年半, 期間有被promote過, 也有拿到公司內部類似最佳員工的獎, working scope也有隨著年資而漸漸擴大, 所以resume上有很多東西可以寫, 在面試的時候也還舉的出一些例子來support.

申請過程方面, 我沒有離職準備GMAT, 一方面不想中斷, 一方面也是要多存點資金, 可是過程真的很苦, 考了兩次出來的結果也沒多振奮人心。我沒有再去考第三次, 因為那時臨時多了幾個projects, 我更不可能有時間準備, 所以就想說用650衝了吧, 把essay寫好賭個機會。

Emory之所以會這麼晚丟, 其實是自己惹的, 我從有留學的想法的時候就已經很喜歡Emory, 可以說是我的dream school之一, 可是事實是我的GMAT就是不高, 所以在申請的過程中被滿多人質疑, 也有人覺得我根本是在送申請費給學校, 被影響的結果是自己也有一點覺得是不是太好高騖遠了, 而猶豫的結果就是過了deadline還沒送出申請書, 最後是被同事"強烈鼓勵"下決定放手試試, 一口氣丟了好幾家, 就當給機會給自己。後來能拿到Emory的interview invitation已經覺得很高興, 昨天看到面試官寄來的admission時, 還真的有點給他高興到淚光閃了一下(到現在還是很高興)。

大概的過程就是這樣低, 我的case應該可以鼓勵一些跟我一樣厚臉皮的人吧 , 不過老實說, 我覺得GMAT還是很重要, 雖然今天我拿到offer, 但是還是有一些學校連interview都不給 , 所以要穩穩當當的進自己喜歡的學校, 個人覺得GMAT真的是基本盤!

Secondly, as a current student and an alum-to-be (I'm graduating in May), I'll say that there are many current students visiting this Forum, answering questions from prospective students, and getting know a little bit about their future fellow students beforehand. There are also tons of students who are not visiting here. I don't think it's because of different schools, it's really a very personal thing. For me personally, I won't "evaluate" anyone here and I trust my school. I believe that my school is giving out admissions based on many different criteria, and scores are definitely not the only ones. From schools' point of view, they won't even "officially" know this website.... So, it's not that scary.

I think this Forum encourages people to share their experiences, so we should be thankful for this Forum and for whoever does so, but don't be demanding.
