PTT超火話題,簽名不去要賠學費USD 15000?

話說有一位網友

接受Minnesota的offer,簽名accept後傳過去(要求4/15前回覆),
可是後來接到Columbia的offer,
考慮後決定接受,就寫信去跟Minnesota說沒辦法去了...
然後就收到這封信,說簽名要去就是一個contract,
不去要付他們基本學費15000美金,

請問有人碰過這種情形嗎?
我知道簽名後不去是不道德的
可是要賠學費也太誇張了吧

我的狀況是我很想去A校(但一直未有結果)
所以就答應B校要去(已經延過response deadline)
我在想萬一A校將來給我offer
哪真的會很麻煩嗎
可以請問有經驗的人分享處理方式嗎

簽名不去我知道是不負責任的作法
不過他已經不幫我延response date
我總不能真的放棄吧
這是目前唯一給我offer的學校,其他都還沒有消息

看起來ptt上的申請者不是MBA的學生
請問MBA也是如此嗎 ? 交了deposit 簽了名
就不能反悔嗎?

老實說，我從來沒聽過這種事情。申請學校本來就是一種matching game，學校也知道學生always have many options and backups，何況既然交了 non-refundable deposit，學生已經付出過了，就不應該再有另一種變相懲罰。

在簽名的文件或附件上, 有沒有提到contract or penalty的字句呢?

It's never too cool to agree then backout....it's a personal ethics issues.

However, that is why "non-refundable" deposits are for. If you ended up not going, all you lose is the deposit, just like most transactions, unless for some reason the contract specifically stated that you are responsible for the entire tuition for the semester, which I highly doubt.

I think there is either a misunderstanding or the story was somehow made up.
