不好意思,再請問一下非限定關代的用法
因為 ,which 的用法不是本來就是非限定關代嗎?
這麼說來
到底什麼情況才能改成分辭呢?

請賜教

OG的標準解答:
S+V...N, Ving => Ving 的主詞 = S
S+V...N, which => which = N

agustin \$m[1]:那個which grow as big as 30 feet long 這裡我解一下
這句大家讀得很困惑是因為 它是標準的中式英文
翻成中文就語意正確 長的跟30呎一樣大 怎聽都合理

所以這個不能去翻譯它

我是用文法去拆它 原級比較 as....as
先寫例子
He is as tall as I (am).
He runs as fast as Jack (runs).
兩邊可以符合

這句 which grow as big as 30 feet long
還原一下 the killer whale grow as big as 30 feet long (verb?)
這樣看 錯誤就很明顯了 殺人鯨跟30呎無法符合阿

總結就是 看到比較題 不要去解文意 會有思路死角 不要怕麻煩 將前後都還原看看 就可以找出錯誤

講的很好,本題考點

as big as 我在新聞有看到,所以問Yahoo國外版的知識。供後人參考看看,我覺得兩種角度都不錯。

因為我沒有將GMAT題目放在Yahoo,而是改寫從新聞看到的句子,如下:
A freakish-looking clam can grow as big as five feet long.

A freakish-looking clam that can grow to be five feet long.

解釋一
"As big as" is a simile that should be followed by an object of comparison, not a length. For example, "as big as a house."

But "big" doesn't fit the verb "to grow." You need an adverb that describes *how* that something grows, and compare it to an object that also grows. "It can grow as rapidly as a teenage boy [grows]."

解釋二

The first is a grammatical sentence. You've got a subject, verb and compliment. The latter is a dependent clause but I'm sure you already know this.

"Big" is an adjective. In this context, the speaker knows that some clams grow very large, even as large as five feet. There's an elipse happening- what the speaker means is "A freakish-looking clam can grow [to be] as big as five feet long." Since this is a common sort of ellipse, I wouldn't get too concerned with a metaphorical comparison that might go with the phrase "as big as" because the length is stated- five feet. Sure, you might say " ... as big as a five foot long couch," but that's putting more words in a sentence where fewer words suffice. (I like Strunk and White's admonitions.)
