我覺得,這題就是典型的"獨立主格"考題,你先試著把A及D的次要修飾句(就是非主句啦)先遮起來,結果發現若僅有主句存在的時候,這個句子仍然成立,不受影響,那就是考獨立主格,接著熟悉一下ETS的出題點,多半對於句中有there+be.V的選項多非為上選,因為比較囉嗦!!!!
那你再回頭看A的選項,其實就是指aware of ~~~的companies所做的choose句意,是不是(D)比(A)簡潔的多呢!!!!

獨立主格結構:
<1>可以單獨存在,且不影響句意
<2>必須有逗點與主句分開,且不與連接詞連用
<3>獨立主格結構:
N+分詞 、N+介詞、N+N~~~~

老實說...這是我第一次聽到這種說法...


第二次看題目時...就覺得D比A還誘人...
但除了簡潔這個原因之外...小弟真的不知道為什麼A錯...

(A) 1. with 所引導的介係詞片語結構太複雜,已經超過一個片語的負載.片語裡帶子句的通常都不是答案,因為不簡潔.
2. there are 其實不必要,因為句子並不是沒有名詞可以當主詞 --> connotations are associated with
(B) 1. have 的主詞是 letters? numbers? 2. they =?
(C) 介係詞片語結構太複雜
(E) them =? it = ?

答案B 中的they

可以寫作....connotations (which) they are aware of..嗎?
這樣就沒有流水句的問題了
而這個they代指後面的companies

NN可以幫我解惑一下嗎

(B) 在 they 的前面有太多名詞可以指代,雖然句意指 companies ,因位容易指代不清,還是不選.
另外, have ("有")常是錯誤選項.

剛才用WORD同義字功能時
發現connotation的同義字包含association... 如果屬實(A)(E)快速排除

(B)they指代不清，可以向前指代numbers，letters 又可向後指代companies
(C)Because of +n + having... 句子複雜 應改為Because 從句
(E)have connotations associated with them 複雜 them 與 it 指代不清

想請教一下，(D)的Aware前面不用加Being嗎? 還是說這可以省略? 因為我一開始就是因為看到此選項前面缺Being才決定選A的...>"<
