把題目兩個句子拆開來看就很明顯囉~
第一句Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years
第二句the English language was never really spoken on the island
顯然Mauritius說的是English，這裡欠一個but 轉折連接詞把兩個句子連起來

正確答案C, but當連接詞, except當介係詞, 在什麼領域用in/within the domain
把句子還原一下就很容易看的懂
=>Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years, but the English language was never really spoken on the island except in the domains of administration and teaching.

我個人認為B的答案缺少but, 就會看不出這兩個句子的關係，中間的except in ....的獨立片語不知道該形容第一個句子還是第二個句子，造成句意沒那麼清楚
