請問要如何分辨(C) cooking(N) with spices 而taking(Ving) spices

請問C選項的cooking若做動名詞用, cooking和taking平衡不對嗎?

不知道我的理解方式對不對，但我是這樣選答案的：

(A) using spices與in medicinal usage是兩個不同的比較對象，刪除。
(B) spices與in using spices也是兩個不同的比較對象，刪除。
(C) cooking with spices與taking spices for medicinal use雖然都是Ving開頭，但是其實是在講不同的事物，所以也是兩個不同的比較對象，刪除。
(E) 我的理解方式是：(1)is跟are後面的比較方式不對稱，一個是is in small quantities，一個是are taken in large quantities...(相比之下D選項則較佳); (2)they指代對象不明(這部分我覺得不是很明顯)，也與the usage of spices較不對稱，刪除。

我也是在D與E選項之間徘徊，但是比較之後會發現D選項較佳。
