該不該讀(賭) top 15?

Hello,
小弟今年30, GMAT前幾天第四戰終於考到自己滿意的分數 (710), 我的背景是資訊工程, undergrad GPA 3.0 (很低), grad school GPA 3.2 (也不怎麼樣). 6年工作經驗 現在在美商 semiconductor 公司做 FAE. 其實待遇也不差. 可是我還是很嚮往像 Opeman 那種在 BCG Greater China 拿 Global Pay. 感覺好有前途.
我想申請 2009 秋季班. 這樣有充裕的時間準備 application. 大家覺得我 top 15有希望?
我周圍的人都叫我讀個 EMBA, 或者是守本份, 繼續工作買房子. 我有點不甘心, 想要闖闖看.

GMAT到達標準只是剛開始，top15有沒有希望，還是在於能不能在你身上找出動人的故事(essay)

不過說真的，你說的「感覺好有前途」是什麼意思？consulting的收入不會比MTK, Pixart要高（如果和你一樣的年資），而且consulting一般只做兩三年，那你以後要做什麼？

有夢最美，人生只有一次，想清楚就衝吧，不用勉強接受別人的價值觀.

為什麼要用賭這個字? 看起來你沒拿什麼當賭注阿...(可能只有application fee and time)
有申請上就去讀吧，沒有就繼續存錢買房子也不錯的呀。
GPA雖然會是一大挑戰，但是essay說不定可以補足你的GPA
端看你這六年的工作經驗值不值得別人收你。
我覺得有夢是好的，但是要真的知道自己在做什麼，這樣才不會半途而廢。
更何況MBA是一回事，進入consulting 是另外一回事。 三思。

我建議你有自己的想法比較好 了解哪個是適合你
若決定了就繼續做!! 至於 要不要賭..坦白說念MBA就是個賭
所以 衝啦!! 我覺得你的條件不錯 有機會就申請
重點是你和學校之間是否雙方面都適合
像我自己AT<650 都照樣衝 畢竟GPA和工作經驗有是很重要的因素

你的問題可以分成兩部分
1.要不要去念MBA
2.該不該全力鎖定念top 15

關於第一題，答案是見仁見智。如果純以投資報酬率來作考量，就像tracer所說，留在MTK賺的不見得比consulting少，所以要看你未的職業規劃是什麼。如果你想轉行，想從FAE轉成 financial service 的 research, 或是轉到其他產業像consulting。那麼MBA可能就是一個 must. 所以，只有樓主自己知道你需不需要MBA

然而，如果你打算還留在high tech領域，轉作sales或是marketing，那麼MBA的必要性就不是那麼高。不過可以肯定的是，即使唸完MBA，你還是應該好好leverage你的 high-tech background, 畢竟6年的工作經驗是很可貴的資產。

關於第二，我的答案是yes. 尤其你的機會成本比別人更高，如果真要出去念，top 15的MBA相對而言會給你極佳的就業資源與alumni network去作你想要作的事情。 尤其是作career change的時候，好學校的brand name 會幫助你克服專業上的不足。

最後，consulting doesn’t necessarily mean a brighter future. 大部分的人作兩三年就會離開，並且選一個他們喜歡的industry 繼續工作。不過對我而言，選擇consulting的理由，不外乎

可以接觸到不同的公司，瞭解不同產業面對的各種問題
學習如何用high level + bottom up 的觀點與方法，去解決問題
與一群極度優秀，但背景不同的同事一起工作，互相學習。

Global pay 雖然很吸引人，但那絕對不是選擇工作的第一考量。否則當初我就會選IB了。

我的 GMAT M49 V38 Total 710 AWA 5.5 需不需要再考, 考到750+來補我的 GPA?

我覺得, GMAT成績超過700分應該算很足夠了, 加上您有六年的工作經驗, 現在比較重要的應該是如何包裝essay 跟 application的相關資料了. 太過在意710 & 750的不同, 投資報酬率似乎不是很大.

you don't need a MBA yet
before you understand what MBA is
and know what direction you're heading for
it'll be pretty vague about what part of MBA you need
and how to leaverage that for your future career

you need a career manager
help you find out your career conviction
find out what criteria you value your life
what's your characteristics, your interests, and what's your goal
that fit your skill set and personality

consullting life may not like what you think
it's a everyday 10~16-hour job
and it's common to have no weekend since you're flying somewhere meeting some bosses

high scores have positive correlation with more competitive schools
but it doesn't mean you'll get it
it's much more complex than that
each school is totally different from others
different mission, different strength, different culture...everything is different
just like how you find your wife
it's not about how strong your muscle is or how tall you are
but about the fit to each other's life
you need to know yourself very very well
know what you have, where you are, where you want to go, what you need to fill the gap between status quo and the future destination
and why
than find out what part of MBA you need
market yourself to the fit schools in extremely fierce competition
it's not that simple

but at the end of the day
it's all about what makes you feel contented in your daily life
it's about the excitement of certain part of job
about working by your interests
helping people in the way you love
it's not about if you get a good MBA or if you have a big house
it's about how you appreciate your life

EMBA is for 40~50 yr-old senior executive
not for a 30 yr-old manager

大中華區只有麥肯錫讓顧問全部搭乘商務艙

其餘的公司，初級LEVEL的顧問在四小時以內的飛行時間都是坐經濟艙

這可不是小朋友寒暑假出去玩,

心情很愉悅的去坐飛機,

為了客戶的專案,

每週飛到外地,

有時星期天晚上就要飛,

週四才回自己的office,

飛的時候還要在機場候機,

一直拿laptop出來做工作,

上飛機一樣忙碌沒得閒,

下飛機就打電話check blackberry,

有時一覺醒來不知自己到底身在何處,

在美國境內更是東西時區不同,

這可不是坐飛機出去遊玩,

一開始很新鮮,

到最後為什麼那麼多人drop off顧問業就是因為無法負荷這樣一直飛行,

有的顧問還是到要飛前一天才接獲指令要到外地做project,

你根本無法跟朋友家人相約做啥事,

so,喜歡這種事是說給recruiter聽唬愣她們的.
