Rice V.S. Vanderbilt

小弟目前手上只有這兩家學校的offer, 但是實在有點難做決定,
希望能有前輩提供一些意見

以下是我自己做的比較:

1. finance:

我計畫是走公司內部coporate finance的路線, 但是我不知道這兩家學校
在這方面會比較有優勢.

2. location:

應該是Rice勝出, 因為它在休士頓, 大城市工作機會應該也多很多.
除此之外, 我想請教一下, 學校會因為地緣的關係跟當地產業較有聯繫,
讓學生在當地找工作比較有優勢嗎? ex. Rice的學生在休士頓會比Vanderbilt
的學生來的有利?

另外, 比較有趣的是, 我有去過一趟Vanderbilt面試, 當天Morgan Stanely
剛好到學校來辦說明會, 也有一個二年級學生已經被錄取了. 或許他有很強的
相關背景所以是個例外, 但是就Top IB也來辦說明會這件事會不會說明Vanderbilt有比較強的就業資源呢?


3. scholarship

Rice : 17500 / per year ; Vanderbilt: 25000/ per year

Vanderbilt 勝出

4. 個人偏好:

因為有直接到Vanderbilt跟學校作接觸, 有感覺到這間學校是用很積極的態度
在各方面幫助學生. Rice就不是非常了解了.

5. Admission Package 精美度 - Vanderbilt勝

聽到Vandy Healthcare MBA 就讓我想到它教學醫院的那"群"大樓, 真是很壯觀阿!! 說不定我們以後會在校園碰面喔....

至於申請的心得, 我能被錄取可能是學校對我印象比較深的緣故吧!? (who knows...)

因為我認識一個正在讀Vandy MBA的朋友, 她當初是直接殺去學校面試, 最後被錄取了,

剛好在丟出application的前夕 (最後我還是在Nashville的旅館裡按下submit鍵哩) , Vandy有辦discovery weekend的活動,

所以我就依樣畫葫蘆, 請幾天假飛去那邊參加活動順便面試. 結果我好像是惟一一個千里迢迢從亞洲飛過去參加這個活動的學生, 哈!

有趣的是, 在歡迎晚會的時候, 有位admission office的人跟我說, 他們喜歡給從最遠地方過來的人admission,

本來以為是開開玩笑, 沒想到居然成真了, 嘿嘿.. 如果有閒的話, 不妨也試試看他的話到底是不是認真的 XD

另外, 透過我那位朋友, 我認識了其他MBA的台灣學生, 所以得到很多第一手的學校資訊, 我也把這些資訊加到我

的essay裡面. (這些人都非常nice, 超感謝他們的!)

至於面試的內容很普通, 不外乎是leadership example, future career plan, why Vandy, etc.

比較特別的是有問到對於職場上ethic的看法.

總結來說, 我想Vandy偏好對學校夠瞭解而且讓他們覺淂積極的學生

I recommend you to accept Rice because it has great reputation in TX where has a lot of job opportunity. As a student graduating from Rice, you will not so difficult to get job in HOU. As I know, Rice is doing good in Finance field.
I visited the school few months ago. The campus is so so so beautiful...

I used to be a student in Rice ESL school. I had lived in Houston for 8 months. Rice is the best school in Texas even through it is not so famous in Taiwan.
You can ride the shuttle bus within the campus. Yes! the campus is beautiful. Houston is a GOOD place to study since not many fun things will distrub you.
Hahahaha..............
But you can find Chinese food, supermarkets, and salons in China town. You do not have to worry what to have if you are used to Chinese food.
It's better to buy a car there. 10 years ago, the public transportation in Houston was not as well as that in NYC. But maybe things have been changed...........
