Regarding UCLA Anderson

我想請問有沒有人遇到同樣的情況
就是我是申請第二輪的，而且也在2/8收到12-digit ID
但昨天卻收信卻收到Round three deadline reminder

我寫信問學校但沒有回音><
想知道有沒有人遇到相同情況呢??

先恭喜你收到面試通知!!
之前我是跟James Kan面試的，跟你分享一下我的經驗，希望對你有所幫助!!

就面試的部分而言
James是個雖然直接，卻不會讓你感到不舒服的面試官
因此如果將來你是給他面試的話，可能會碰到的情況是
他問你的問題，你自己覺得表達得很清楚，但他會犀利地告訴你，他不知道你的梗在哪
例如他會直截了當問你說 : "Ok.....but I don't get your point....."
"Again....where's your leadership? I don't see it."
因此面試的過程中還蠻驚嚇的-.-||

面試的題目其實沒有什麼邏輯
除了一開始的go through your resume
之後就開始一整個隨著James的fu走
他看到什麼部分他有興趣的 可能就會問你
然後針對你的回答內容裡面 如果他有興趣的部分 還會節外生枝繼續問XD

感覺上他很強調leadership這一塊
所以如果面試時能夠更加強這個部份，相信會有不小的幫助

而私底下，他是個很nice的人喔!
除了會把你當朋友一樣就你的case給予一些建議之外
還會跟你討論你對於MBA及Anderson的疑問
或者分享一些他在Anderson的經驗

不過 我回信跟UCLA安排 OFF CAMPUS的interview 如他們的instruction
但是過了兩天 沒有人回應我

我想請問這樣是正常嗎?
還是 我應該去哪裡 自己schedule!?

The statistics for this year's internship are not available yet.

I have an impression that historically, roughly 1/3 people got the offer before April, mainly for investment banking, consulting and some big-name companies with structured internship programs. High tech or entertainment companies start their summer intern recruiting relatively late. From the employment report, overall 99.4% people in class 2008 got the internship offers. That is to say, almost everyone eventually will get a summer internship.

Below is a brief summary on my application background

Business Adminstration, NTU
3 years of work experience in market research
GMAT 750
Toefl 114

我總共申請了4家學校
都在加州 其中三家為UC 體系的
Anderson給我的vibe是 一個比較friendly的學校
相較於其他我有接觸的學校, 比較 在乎 "人格特質"
例如 在他們問的essay中 family backgroud的 要求兩頁 , 而leadership experience 一頁而已
在面試的過程中, 我的面試關也問我許多 關於我personality 的問題
我的interviewer 是 edward yeh, associate director of ubs
約在 neo 19的CHILI's...
interview 的感覺 比較像是各chat
他先請我自我介紹
接下來 問了我 在非工作的時後 會做什麼
朋友會如何形容我
告訴他一各 在非工作上 克服困難的經驗
然後 為什麼 現在 想念 MBA 即選ANDERSON的原因
其他 20分鐘 就我問他問題
總面試時間約50分鐘吧

我覺得ANDERSON應該是很願意接納沒有太豐工作經驗但是成績不錯的applicant
從她們的profile來看 她們的 average GMAT應該是數一數二高的.....

overall, 學校給我的感覺很和善 (including 在MBA FAIR的工作人員, 她們EMAIL的口吻 面試的人)

And I am highly interested in the career track of media-entertainment management. As I heard, international students seldom went for such types of jobs. Is it true with anderson? Have you seen such examples?

Additionally, they say that entertainment companies are not favored partly because the pay is not competitive despite the fact that the workload is heavy? Are all these horrible statements true? I would really appreciate your response!

If you are interested in media and entertainment industry. then UCLA Anderson is definitely your top one choice (NYU is another school famous for entertainment)... :-)

Generally speaking, it may be hard for international students to land a job in US because of culture, language and visa issues. I think it also applies to entertainment industry. For example, I got an impression about entertainment industry that networking is quite important and networking is definitely a big challenge to some international students.

However, I know one international student who is going to intern as an internal consultant in Disney. What I learn from this case is that as long as you can speak English well (this person lived in Canada and did undergrad in US) and your qualification really meets their requirements, you still have the chance. As for the package, I do not know the exact figure for the abovementioned position but I heard it is REALLY GOOD.

A perspective from the "other" MBA school in LA :)

1. International Student seldom went for media-entertainment management type of jobs: Yes. Partly because int'l students typically are not well-versed in Hollywood industry. 2nd, you need to be very Americanized to be able to break into entertainment. 3rd. Major Studio typically don't offer H1B to businees-type positions

2. Pay not competitive, workload heavy: Yes. Internships in the entertainment industry are 80% non-paid. You are often competing with undergraduates with the same job. Generally, MBAs are just not as valuable in the entertainment industry.
