我是欲申請2008 Fall MBA 的學生，目前仍就業，請有經驗 & 好心的前輩們幫我診斷一下我為什麼一直失敗? Would appreciate your kind advice.

Work Exp: 56 months (19military, 18 family business, 19 Logistics)
Short-term goal: Marketing, Long-term: Work for the family business(Eletronic manufacturing)

Q1. 今年我自己覺得可能面試表現不夠好，看了板主的面試文章，我覺得我準備不夠周全，但其實我自己面試了幾間，有一點經驗，後段的面試其實已作得不錯了，跟面試者還算相談甚歡。
Q2.如果今年皆刹羽而歸，針對我欲準備明年的春季班，我該加強??
1. Working experience (keep working)
or
2. English speaking ability (re-take toefl and GMAT)
連續的reject浪潮中，我覺得信心難免動搖，希望能有前輩指點迷津!!

--The fact that you were rejected by 2nd tier schools is baffling, actually more like hard to believe, but it could be that they could not believe someone w/ your credentials would realistically attend their program so they figured they didn't want to "waste" an admission.
--My guess is that the problem lies in essays. You proably had someone edit it for English, but maybe your message--why MBA, goals, etc.--wasn't quite crisp or sharp enough.

我們倆的背景有點相似 不過你的各方面條件真的不錯!!有Top10的淺力
你的Ibt 103 口語面試應該不會太差
不過我覺得你最大的問題應該是出在essay.選校問題.
essay是否能明確表達出你的特質. 你的長短期目標和學校的結合. 是否客製化
選校問題-我看不太出來 你偏向哪方面的課程 感覺是按時間的早晚來選擇保底的學校
當然希望大家今年都能順利進入MBA(包含我自己 哈哈)
不過 若是要檢討的話 我覺得你可以重新想想自己的長短期目標是不是明確可行 學校哪方面課程能協助你
然後在好好研究學校一番(行銷.管理.創業) 針對不同學校的喜好 來寫essay!!
加油啦!!我們倆可以一起交流.....我在上海工作 可以感覺大陸學生在這方面真的很互相合作
包含考at. 練習面試. 經驗分享. 修改論文這方面都很合作 這也是我們Taiwanese要加油的

Your condition is quite wiered.
In my year(in fact, last year), 720+ could almost promise you a second tier school. I think no one will fail at that if only you say nothing strange during your interview.
I also believe that your problem here is probably from your essays. Please do not miss your path here. From your background, I think you worth a top 15 or even an M7. It's still not too late this year. Tons of schools are welcoming your application.
But, of course, thousands of IB employees laid off this year(due to the Bear) will join the competition for top schools. Be careful for that. You may wanna apply some other schools at the rest few rounds to avoid the applicant flood.

Very curious about Mark's reply....
I thought second-tier schools would offer admission and scholarships to strong candidates, wouldn't they? If they reject the "overqualified"candidates, how should I respond to interviewers if they ask what other schools I have applied or interviewed? Should I mention the schools at higher rankings?

One more question about the essays:
If I get an interview, does it mean that the school has accepted my explanation of career change and future goal? And all I have to do is re-state it in my interview?
From the above replies, it seems that schools may still reject a candidate even if he got an interview...

--As for my essay, I finished them all by myself in English and had them reword by an American to make them easier for Native readers.
The structure and the ideas are 95% remained. However, I think I did not put much emphasis on the school's uniqueness. I was concentrating on my own short-term and long-term goals and on how I expect a MBA program could aid me. Here is my question, how am I gonna know the school's culture and uniqueness? I did make some reserach from the schools' websites and found that the information they provided is mostly a more general ideas. Rather than talking about which class or area is their strength, schools are telling what they have and the classes are all good. Is there another source for me to find some more useful information?
--Reflecting on my preparedness for the interviews, I think there is a lot more I could do to improve my candidacy. Though I hate to use such excuse as currently taking a full-time job limited my time for more thorough research, I did need to spend more time to complete such work. I wonder that is everyone applying and working at the same time? Is it good for me to quit the job and be fully committed to the applying process?
--Again, thanks for all your support, I will not give up my goal purpuing a MBA as one of the important steps to my ultimate career goal.

Like William said, 2nd tier schools are largely grade driven, so if there are no major Fxxx ups in your essays, for example citing the wrong school or saying something really dumb in the essays, it should be alright.
However, at the same time, you have to "pretend" that you are somewhat serious about the school.

Getting someone to proofread your English for grammar is not enough to get you into a top school unless you are an exceptional writer to begin with.

我也認為你的問題出在 why the school -- 不能只是寫general的why mba來應付。畢竟以你的條件申請2nd tier又沒有好好作功課的話，很明顯就是個備案。好心一點的給你W/L，不想浪費時間的就直接定。 Mark說的很好，假裝一下是很重要的。
至於Essay的潤筆我個人是覺得還好啦，言之有物比較重要嘍
你的GMAT成績應該基本的文法單字都很好啦，看的懂就好....我寫的K論文至少有5個字拼錯，意思完全天南地北，但整段可以猜出意思就OK吧

後半學校錄取兩三間
會出現這樣骨牌連拒的不多
但可以看到在BW forum及CD上的連拒壯士幾乎都有共同特性
就是essay粗操浮面或是亂槍打鳥
問題出在essay是多講的
但essay問題主要不是出在essay本身
而是出在生涯管理失能
生涯方向模糊或明顯不合邏輯
過去經歷與未來方向沒有具體邏輯銜接或交代不清
甚至要回朔至大學主修
無法解釋轉折點及其對生涯與生命的意義
以及對MBA細部認知不足
導致essay中無法解釋細部MBA結合點與實際生涯應用
簡單說就是申請人讓招生委員感受到無頭蒼蠅或瞎子摸象
才會出現這樣的連拒骨牌現象
但經過仔細討論其實受拒者都有MBA動機及原因
只是或許還停留在潛意識裡 沒有進行深度挖掘
或是對MBA細部了解有限
即使有動機原因 在表達時也綁手綁腳
原則上學校都是愛高分的
這裡也沒有出現特別over-qualified的現象
七百多分四年半經驗頂多算前20%
會出現BU, Katz, UCI, UM都連續拒絕或WL的現象
原因已經跟文法或潤不潤稿沒有太大關連
口語程度也已經不是重點
托福能考到一百出頭 口語已經有一定水準
問題還是出在無法解釋動機與關連
才會直接被拒
雖沒有整體狀況很難判定
但可以初步看出樓主連續被拒的主要原因
