3 A collection of 38 poems by Phillis Wheatley, a slave, was published in the 1770’s, the first book by a Black woman and it was only the second published by an American woman.

(A) it was only the second published by an American woman
(B) it was only the second that an American woman published
(C) the second one only published by an American woman
(D) the second one only that an American woman published
(E) only the second published by an American woman

The answer is E, but I chose C. Could anyone help explain why the answer E is better than C?? Thanks.~ :|

比較published by an ameriacn woman和 the second published by an american woman哪一個特別，比較特別的那個就是only該修飾的對象

〈ex1〉Only children can swim in the river before noon.（not adults）

〈ex2〉Children can only swim in the river before noon.（not fish）

〈ex3〉Children can swim only in the river before noon.（not inthe lake）

I find some related quesition in OG.
We can get some inspiration from those.

考點1-- and平衡, 逗點之後為同位語, 平衡名詞 the first book => (C) (D) (E) 選一個.
考點2-- two-way modifier: (C) (D) 的 only 可往前也可往後修飾, 造成句意模糊, 只有 (E) 明確修飾 the second (book) ... .
