I thought the key point is the meaning of "commodity". I have checked the Longman dictionary, it said " a product that can be sold to make a profit" ...then the answer should be "E"....因從句意萊說, recycle 商品的市場像鋁及其它金屬....鋁及其它金屬怎麼等於商品呢 ? 所以應該選 E, 為鋁及其它金屬的商品, 但是這個選項重複出現 commodities 會不會 redundency ? 第二個 commodities 應 用 those 代比較好 ???

But some 電子字典竟然說 commodity 有材料的意思, if so...it's reasonable to choose "C"....

And FYI, Mo Bei Bei has explained this question in the class, I was told that the answer is C.... But Mo Bai Bai explained based on the point of "like" and "such as"...as you all know...under Mo Bai Bai's rule, we need to choose "such as" instead of "like".... :D

yap , i agree with mo bai bai ^^ . As you know, compared with "like" , which could be explain to be "prefer" or "for example", the phrase "such as " , which only means "for example" , is more clear and won't be ambiguious.

" like " is only used to "compare" rather than " make an example" in AT SC.

If you think the "like" in E is used to compare two things, then E is still wrong since "the market" and "commidities" is uncomparable.

原本我選時很肯定，但搞到後來我連基本的東西都開始質疑
請問
C選項commodities such as aluminum and other metals remains 中
such as aluminum and other metals會不會有不知道是修飾market還是commodities的問題呢?
另外such as雖然大多是舉例，但我印象中OG裡似乎有一題也是用like

原本選C，但後來想了一大堆，讓我整個變得暈頭轉向
後來改選E了
請大家多多指教~

不會用like的

再來such as直接修飾最靠近的名詞
所以不會有歧義問題

Like的表示方式通常是為兩種對等的種類作比較LikeA,B is....此時A跟B的元素是要一樣的,such as的表達方式通常是在一個大種類下,然後舉例小類別,從文章判斷應為後者,而且like通常是習慣擺在句首作比較(大部分),(E)選項讓人怪怪的是,回收種類(recycle commodities)跟(the commodities of aluminum and other metals)相比沒有所謂的從屬關係,應該是要說這兩個是分別獨立的個體,參考看看嚕

莫伯伯的規則,舉例用such as而不用like,其實是有原因的
因為用like容易造成ambiguity
像這題來講,可能就會產生二個解釋:
1.like表舉例,commodities包括了aluminum和other matels
2.like表比較,變成the market和the commodities比較
二者的句意完全不同 所以為什麼莫老說舉例請用such as
因為在AT的考試要用最嚴謹的英文 我們不能依照句意就自己做文法上的解讀
OG裡常常有類似這樣的例子 雖然我們能讀的懂句意
但裡面的解釋會說整個句子是absurdity 因為雖然文法對 但句意怪
回到原題 such as在這裡是絕對不會錯的 比較起來 like就有犯錯的空間在
所以我選C不選E
