此題的答案是(D)..我當初在D E之間做考慮..我想..句意是很重要的，是star will compress itself not mass。所以d對..但是這裡我產生了代名詞的問題,
首先，在D裡的after passing是after mass passes or after a star passes???
腦子裡一直想的代名詞優先替代主詞,但是在這裡已經變成了whether子句了,那after之後簡化的主詞,是不是就應該變成a star而非原先的的mass.
如果是這樣,所以E裡的after passing should be after the mass of a star passes?
代名詞這種東西 到底要看局形還是看句意,老實說,我一直困在''代名詞優先替代主詞""的迷思當中，有誰可以救救我，感激不盡!!!!!!!!!

所以說都事先已具易為主的對吧..只要他能清楚得指代一個名詞就可以了吧..
唉唉 我總是對待名詞沒信心 不知道得了什麼並

因為我做題時選(B)....
我怎麼看都認為B比D好~

※ 其中的passing through .......有種修飾不清的感覺~
( 雖然看到後來應該是是修飾a start.....)
而選項B裡, After passing through a red giant stage, depending on its mass, a star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.

※ passing and depending on 所指的都是 a star....(很清楚看得出來)
不懂為何卻答案為D 而非B .........

有人可以幫忙解惑嗎?

(B)中的 depending on its mass 不知修飾主語 "a star will ..." 還是修飾 "passing through ..."，會產生歧異；但(D)選項 "after passing through ..." 在 whether 子句裡，很明顯修飾子句主語 a star，不會有修飾不清的現象。
