己經不知讀幾次了，但現在看到這一題，真是感動，貼出來和大家研究

先從解答看好了In A, lack is modified by a wordy and awkward construction, to such a large degree as to make it difficult to.(首先OG並未點名A為何錯，只說lack做動詞時，去形容這種複雜句實在很囉嗦很廢話) B is similarly flawed, and to a large enough degree that is unidiomatic.(OG也覺得B很糟，至少enough degree就直接該刪了) C is ungrammatical because it uses lack as a noun rather than as a verb: the phrase beginning Students... becomes a dangling element, and them refers illogically to skills rather than students.(C更扯了，這裡的lack變成名詞，有脫節的問題，此外，基於就近修飾的考慮，這裡的them會被成修skills) Additionally, A, B, and C fail to use one or both of the “-ing” forms are lacking and becoming; these forms are preferable to lack and becomes in describing progressive and ongoing conditions. (OG在此拋出底牌，根據句意，這裡兩個動詞最好都是分詞，而不是原形動詞，才有ongoing的意思)D uses the “-ing” forms, but so much... as to be difficult to absorb is an awkward and unidiomatic verbal modifier(再次強調so as to 不能用在這). Choice E is best.(選E)

1.表示"如此..以致於..."以so... that...優先, 沒事不用such a large degree...太過wordy
2.enough to也可表達so...that ...但enough後面不是to, 必錯
3.lack可以做名詞，但在本句會造成前半段缺乏動詞，或是要在lack前打一comma, 但這還有脫節的問題
4.該表達prdgressive and ongoing的語氣，要用現在分詞(這點我看不出來，請大家指點)
5.C選項OG指點的是them錯誤指代(這裡為什麼就一定講skills，也請大家指點)
6.so much ...as to ...不會出現在肯定句中

基本上

(C) so large (adv phr)修飾 lack 很怪..缺乏math skill很大? 怪異

另外還有一個嚴重錯誤就是 absord+N (受詞) 所以 absord them是對的
其他沒有的都可以刪掉..再比較

well....簡單式表事實....進行式強調「正在」進行的狀態...完成式強調「持續」維持的狀態....(有錯請指教)

這個我也不太了解.....從語意嗎?....還是像micht的講法跟 absorb 的用法有關??

so as to 前後主語是相同的
so that 前後主語是不同的

這不是絕對ㄛ.... 只是大部份情況的確是這樣用的.....

魚講的就更讓人不明白了，你講的那題我曉得，250多題吧，但那是修飾語誤置，也就是說，可能是"告訴某位歷史學家有封信裡面講著兩個火山爆發"，或是"寫信告訴某位歷史學家說有火山爆發"

但我這裡只是問你them耶，CE都是them，為何C有問題(OG解題有指明)，E就能對，有什麼差別?

補充CD對them的解釋

(C) lack of math skills is so large as to be difficult to absorb them into a city’s economy that becomes

整个句子省略后为：students to absorb them into a city；这样一来，them根本不可能指代students，而是them出现之前的另外一个复数词：skills；

(E) are so lacking in math skills that it will be difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming

so that表结果，that后可以变成：to absorb them into a city will be difficult，这里的them优先指代主语，与前面各位说的相似，楼主疑惑的应该是C中的them为何不可指代students而E中可以指代的问题，上述的划线部分给出了我的个人意见。

The phrase As business grows more complex introduces an ongoing condition that is leading to consequences described in the rest of the sentence. Those consequences should, like the causal condition, be expressed with simple present-tense or present progressive verb forms. Only choice B, the best answer, consistently employs these forms: who major... and... are becoming. In A and D, the use of like rather than such as is incorrect: like makes a comparison; such as introduces examples. In A, C, and D, those of is unnecessary verbiage, and being in C and E is less precise than becoming for describing a pattern of events that is unfolding.

其時說真的我也不大明白為什麼這裡becoming 要用現在進行式, 解釋是不是說用現在式及進行式都可以, 所以這題出題人設定進行式比較符合他的句意...那...適用樓上那題嗎　??

另外則是針對進行式分詞的看法
反覆回味之後，我覺得應該是說， lack與become如果用現在式更好
但事實上，用現在式的時候，只要合乎句意，也不見得有錯
