In A and B, the phrases beginning Unlike... and Besides... modify patients, the subject of the main clause; thus A absurdly states that Unlike transplants ..., patients... must take ... drugs, and B that all patients except for transplants... must take ... drugs. In B and D the expression identical twins with the same genetic endowment wrongly suggests that only some identical twin pairs are genetically identical. In E, the construction Other than transplants..., all patients ... must take... drugs illogically suggests, as in B, that some patients are transplants. Choice C, the best answer, solves these problems by using a clause introduced by Unless to describe the exception to the rule and a nonrestrictive clause beginning with who to describe the characteristic attributed to all identical twins.[/size]

1.整理以下besides相關字群的用法
引導名詞不需與主要子句主詞對等:except for ; aside from; on the basis of

引导的名词需與主要子句主詞對等 :excepting,Besides; other than; like; unlike
2.B,D=>with~做限定修飾,暗示只有一些identicla twins具有相同基因
3.B that all patients except for transplants... must take ... drugs. =>OG解釋這個我就看不懂了,請教大家,為什麼besides會跟except for等同在一起呢?我的認知besides是應該跟in addition to 是等同意思的,有包含的意味....

你老兄提了這問題，我腦子裡開始嘗試比較except for, besides
OG在解釋裡確實有瑕疵，而且單是這題就有兩個瑕疵，包括答案C的非限定從句

我只能這樣理解吧，這裡表達的是句意，句意可接受即可
因此不論是other than, or, together with
這裡ETS似乎暗示，這某些情況下，besides可等同except for
哪怕是主要子句的主詞不對等.....

別罵我，我承認我是說廢話，看解答說解答

但我也得順便說一聲，mike老兄你的OG讀真的很細，我都跟你一起複習呢

因為besides前後要同類

而解釋之所以用except for就是因為要用這個片語才是正確的
因為transplants跟patients根本不同類阿...

所以會讓你有besides跟except for相等的錯覺

我覺得會有點Confused
老莫說....
except = other than 要比同類
except for = aside from 可比不同類....

但看OG的解釋...
感覺上B是暗示besides = except for....

不過這題的OG解釋好像不是繞這幾個字在討論....
我覺得它是要考句意啦...
因為OG解釋說BD變成暗示只有一些雙胞胎的基因會相同...
ABE的話不同類不能比較... (但醬又跟我剛說besides = except for不同...)
怪....

我就是看到102後,在看到這題才覺得怪怪的ㄇㄟ
不過我倒是同意B兄的想法
這題ETS可能是要表達在這個情況下用except for才對
ETS並不是說besides=except for, 但是大家看了解釋卻都這麼認為
犯了修辭岐意 :P

結論:非限定就是要在who前面加逗號，這是OG少見的印刷錯誤

entirely justified: there is a printing error in question 141, option C.
Nonrestrictive clauses should indeed be set off by parenthetical commas, and
there should therefore be a comma after "twins" in option C. We appreciate

不過,想請問關於ｃ和 E的答案的後半部子句部份在句意上有何不同?

這題參考了別人的總結知道with 和 whose 在句意上的區別,一個是限定(表達出部份的概念);一個是全部.泛指。
不知道ｃ和 E 是否都是非限定和全部.泛指的概念?而E和c 相比,E 不好是因為other than
要同類比較(E 沒有),而 unless 則是條件句所以不同類是可以的。

不知道ｃ和 E 是否都是非限定和全部.泛指的概念? 而E和c 相比,E 不好是因為other than要同類比較(E 沒有),而 unless 則是條件句所以不同類是可以的。 (這就是答案啊)

是因為看了上面的ETS的回覆(C選項確實少了個逗號)而問的。
if C 選項有逗號,那麼C 和 E 的'句意'上並無不同囉?兩者都是非限定和全部.泛指的概念?
我是想確定一下if C 有逗號,那麼E和c 的不同除了other than和 unless 外,
'後半部子句的句意'是相同還是不同?

如果妳是要問 是否 兩種表達方式都OK , 即 who have the same genetic endowment =whose genetic endowment is the same ?

我的想法是 兩種表達方式都可以

不過 單看 (E) 句 裡頭的transplants .....與後面的 genetic endowment 尚有單複數的問題存在 , 句意表達的很不清楚
