前句指時間,後句指地方

(B)Australia為指定名詞,there 後面只可加非指定名詞,所以不選,另外it代替前面的Australia,這裡的Australia不知為何時的Australia, 句意不清
(A)的解釋就像agk兄所說的羅

In B, it has no logical referent, because the previous clause describes a time when there was no Australia.

引申涵義不大懂
是說即使文法上it可以代替前面出現過的Australia，但句意上因為當時還沒有Australia所以illogical？

這一來考慮代名詞的問題時，其實也要考慮當時存在與否囉？

想請教大家..
一般狀況下(不在此題)
如果 it 當虛主詞時(當初看此題時因為不懂antipodes意思,antipodes前又有the,在未看後句的情況下曾一度想把it當成虛主詞)
像是it was the book that I bought yesterday..
此時it是不是前面可以不必要有東西可以代呢?
(不好意思我想不到例題,只是好像常在做題時想到指代問題就會有疑惑)

不是別本

要用力的注意一下
這句跟the book I bought yesterday
文法都沒錯
但在ets的詳解裡
"兩者句意不同"
因此若選項a視這一句
選項b是上面寫的那一句
算改變句意

the opposite pole to civilization在這裡應該是antipodes的同位語

那an obscure and unimaginable place that was considered the end of the world 是不是也是antipodes的同位語阿??

因為我實在覺得很奇怪
將the opposite pole to civilization這個同位語不看之後,antipodes之後馬上又接an obscure......., 這種結構實在有點看不懂
