我現在就讀於CMU (Carnegie Mellon U)，我之前也申請過 UW並獲得錄取，另外附帶US$ 10,000 scholarship for the 1st year，本來頗為心動，但在看了學校提供的各項統計資料，在與其他學校的資料相比之後，我選擇放棄。
就我收到的資料了解，UW MBA program去年(2004)錄取了100名左右的新生(sorry, 應該說有100名左右的新生報到)，來自於九個國家，今年，如果我聽到的消息沒有錯的話，至少錄取了超過十名以上的台灣學生，且多數選擇報到，假若該校報到總人數不變，我個人覺得台灣學生的比率實在是高了一點，而且international students僅來自於九個國家(相信大部分為亞洲國家)，我個人覺得cultural diversity有點略嫌不足。此外從學校提供的就業或intership統計資料，多數recruiters是西北部(主要是Washington State)當地的一些regional companies，當然也有一些global 或是全國性(美國)知名的大公司前往徵才，但總覺得比率不夠高，這些因素也是我放棄的主因。
但是UW畢竟還是一所有相當名聲的學校，就如同我的一個來自於Seattle且大學就讀於UW Seattle的同學所言，UW可說是西北部的超級學校，整個西岸地區除了Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA之外，很難有可以與之匹敵的學校，因學費非常便宜但教育品質極好，所以申請者眾多，而且根據我在PHONE INTERVIEW的時候admissions officer的說法，UW MBA program畢業生，畢業後三個月內的就業率高達97%，他相當自豪的說，這個數據在全美各大MBA programs中，即使不是最高，也屬於最佳的就業結果之一。
至於CMU，我當然可以提供比較詳細的資訊。CMU Tepper School今年總共錄取了6-7名台灣學生，前來報到的有四位，這幾年有增加錄取台灣學生的趨勢，2004年以前，CMU每年大約僅有1-3名台灣學生報到，且幾乎均為女生，去年一口氣增加到七位，今年仍維持在四位的高水準，並且首度男性多於女性。以CMU在2004年以前，一年招收250名左右的學生，而自2004開始減少至150-160名而言，學校能有這樣的轉變時在不容易。我想這應該是之前的台灣學生表現不錯，且與這兩年學校減少招收中國學生有關。再加上去年商學院獲得一名校有US$ 55,000,000的慷慨捐贈，校方這兩年勵精圖治，積極改善各項設施，甚至刻意減少招生人數，以圖衝高學校排名的企圖昭然若揭。
由於過去 CMU給人充滿數理陽剛之氣的印象(至少40%以上學生具有理工背景)，學校這兩年大力招收人文背景的學生，以扭轉此一刻板印象。CMU主要強項在於E-commerce, operation management, 及finance，由於CMU的COMPUTER SCIENCE極為出名(通常與MIT及UC Berkeley互爭排名第一)，商學院方面也充分利用學校此一優勢，故在IT領域表現極為出色。這幾年學校也積極強化 Strategy領域，希望能成為一個均衡發展又不失特色的program。雖然CMU Tepper School綜合排名不算頂尖(除了在Wall Street Journal 的ranking以外)，但在recruiters' preferrence survey方面，卻一直名列前矛，所以就業狀況一直很好，再加上Pittsburgh的cost of living相對於其他top 20 B-schools所在的大城，算是相當低，居民也極為和善(這點獲得我們班上來自於California, Boston, NYC, or Chicago同學的高度贊同)，所以可以說是生活機能佳、居住環境好，對我而言，最大的優點是學生搭乘任何大眾交通工具都免費，所以我沒有買車，到任何地方都乘坐公車，省下了一大筆開銷。

Tepper 的課程設計的確有點偏重quantitive部分，這可能是CMU這所以理工見長學校的影響。但Tepper School畢竟是商學院，校方不會要求每一位學生都是數理高手，況且台灣學生的平均數學程度本來就比老美要好，再加上GMAT若能考到670-680以上，數學程度不可能差，要應付課程需求應該沒有問題(二年級生的經驗談)，只要你修過微積分，而且還殘存一點概念。
另外再分享一些訊息，由於學校現在有錢，所以積極吸引優秀學生前來就讀，給獎學金的機會很高，標準給法是一年五千美金，如果條件特別優異，會再往上加。所以實際求學花費會比在brochure裡註明的生活費及學雜費便宜許多。

I would love to give you my first hand information and some insights.
Please see the comments as follows:

The estimation is about 55K per year. Tuition is about 34K per year.
However the life expense is so high here.
For example, I rent a 4-bed room apartment near campus which costs me 920 per month !!!
2.請問他們(回台灣或在美國)就業率高嗎?
I can give you some Taiwanese students I know (directly from Taiwan not ABC) in class of 2005 who just graduated this year.
One is working in Mckinsey Taipei office
One is working in Merrill Lynch Taiwan
One is working in a high-tech company in California bay areas
3.唸完書要怎樣才能留在美國工作阿?
If your English and professional abilities are qualified and you have strong will to work in US, you will definitely secure a nice job in US.
It also depends on your career goals. Working in Taiwan/Asia could bring you more benefits than working in US.
I know most of us including me would like to work in US for a while and gain some international experience. But I admit it will be a very challenging route. You should recognize this fact why a company wants to hire you other than US citizens. So let’s keep improving ourselves and using positive attitude to overcome any difficulty.
4.請問這4所華人佔的比率是多還是少呢?
California is a diverse community so you can see lots of people from different countries. I would say you won’t have home sick in Berkeley since lots of Chinese immigrants here. Usually, 4 to 5 Taiwanese students come to Haas each year. This year we got 10 directly from Taiwan compared to only 2 from mainland China and we are the biggest international student group. I will interpret this figure that Berkeley recognize the importance of Taiwan. Also the performance of Taiwanese students give them a good impression not only in academic but also in careers. Therefore they are willing to give us more offers than other countries.
I know you may concern that if there are too many Chinese/Taiwanese, it could affect your improvement of English oral speaking or you will often speak Mandarin. I also worry about this before I come to here. However, the truth is that you should and you must enhance your English communication skills everyday so that you can “survive” in this environment.
5.美國不能打工那是不是寒暑假也不能去美國企業實習阿?...這樣不是喪失學習機會!
Don’t worry. If you get admissions from the schools you mentioned, the opportunity to have an internship is extremely high. As far as I know, every Haas Taiwanese student gets internship in US.

GPA is not so important and you can’t do anything about it now.
However, I admit the GMAT requirement of Berkeley is so high. Our range (10 people from Taiwan) is from 690 to 760. The average is about 720.
