帖子doways » 2005-08-29 22:38

131.The Commerce Department announced that the economy grew during the second quarter at a 7.5 percent annual rate, while inflation eased when it might have been expected for it to rise.

(A) it might have been expected for it to rise
(B) it might have been expected to rise
(C) it might have been expected that it should rise
(D) its rise might have been expected
(E) there might have been an expectation it would rise

但正確答案中也是it might have been expected to rise

the key to this question is not you mentioned.
B is still better than D.

我想ETS是不喜歡 it 被改成 its 吧. it 指 inflation, its 硬生生地把抽象名詞變成所有格, ETS 說這樣 awkard!
"Choice D awkardly substitues its rise for the pronoun it as the subject of might have been expected; since it refers to inflation, the subject of the verb eased, it is preferrable as the subject of might have been expected, the verb form corresponding to eased."

請問(D) its rise might have been expected

Its rise is not parallel to inflation
