本題做錯的幾個原因（DE選項作比較）：1、which allow and allowing本身意思上沒差別，但allowing要簡潔。2、while performing 有省略，省略的主語和remain unconfined的主語一致。沒辦法，記住這是允許的，我錯就是因為沒看出來這個。3、benefit比beneficial要好，表達的更清楚。4、that限定定語從句在這兒也是恰當的（指出犯人做的這部分工作）。5、白大白活蛋講 in one’s doing 永遠錯。。

while performing 應該是省 criminals 但是主詞不是crinminals??

第二 請問 in one's doning 是為什麼錯?

你的第一個問題 while performing 的確是省了 criminals 所以不曉得你覺得省略的主詞是哪個勒
你的第二個問題 in one's doing 我去查了字典 雖然沒找到為什麼不行
不過的確是沒看過這樣的用法 只有
in one's-----指範圍領域 eg: in my opinion / in your sight....
in後面接的動詞 有些是原形動詞eg: in search of truth---尋找真理
有些是動名詞 eg: busy in doing something----忙於某事
只有在in=while時 in 後面所加的動詞才都是動名詞的型態
反而沒看到in的後面直接接動名詞的型態 我想這也許就是你所謂"白大白活蛋講 in one’s doing 永遠錯。"的原因吧!!!

但是為什麼可以省阿 主詞是the number of convicted criminals

雖然them代表 criminals 但可以當while省去的主詞嗎
感覺怪怪的

可是我最近在研究分詞的結構，句子,Ving>>Ving是可以修飾前句主詞，為什麼此題中performing不能修飾criminal,又為什麼解答說是因為sentences的關係;就我認知N,Ving>>Ving通常都不能拿來修飾緊鄰的名詞。

while是形容remain，也就是說句意變成"在做一些有益社會的工作的期間"→"他們不會被關"?? 換言之，不在while的這段期間就要被關摟?!
這樣感覺是他們會被關很久，但是其中不用被關的時間要做公益活動。

原句應該要說社區服務可以取代被關吧!! 所以我覺得這裡的while讓人誤解。

請指教!!

while 的主詞好像不太尋常:一般都是主要子句的主詞,這一句是受詞 (them).
OG 並沒有特別解釋,老美也許不覺得這是個問題! (why?)
